I just took the money I was saving for an iPhone, and decided that as
long as irs screen is smaller than 640 x 480 resolution, its not TRUE
Internet; and have ordered a Garmin GPS with Bluetooth, which costs
less and likely will be used more.

If iPhone 2 supports 3G, AT&T likely will charge $40/month for data,
like they do for 3G Smartphones.

Despite the fact that you can enlarge the screen to any size you want?

I bought a cheapo Garmin for my car. Use it occasionally. They do make
    good GPS units.

I see the demos of folks getting sore fingers pinching and stretching
trying to use a 3 1/2 inch screen like it was a 15 inch screen.
A technical marvel that Apple did that, but a royal pain for extended
browsing. I'm not a lawyer who receives boatloads of time-sensitive
critcal email every day, so the iPhone Visual email is not something
    I require.

I'll stick with my old reliable Pismo when I'm on the road, and stop
at a McDonalds parking lot and use their WiFi.

A Garmin with bluetooth, allows wonderful handsfree use of ones
Bluetooth phone. The GPS prices are literally less than half of what
they were last year, and Garmin will provide a free update to the
"2008" maps if the unit you buy new doesn't have that included.

P.S. Both Apple and Garmin stock has doubled in value over the last 12
    months.

I use it everyday - works pretty fast, and because you can flip the page
horizontally, I often don't have to enlarge. It's all what you're
    comfortable with.

Much to my surprise, I actually like the iPhone, in general. It's a
very slick device. However, I won't be getting one anytime soon
because it does have some drawbacks, some minor, some major, and one
    fatal. Highlights:

    * It's storage is non-expandable via memory cards (I have >17GB of
    music files)
    * It's battery is not user-replaceable
    * It uses iTunes (though I presume Winamp would also work for
    day-to-day music synching)
    * I have a lot of use and money invested in my PalmOS applications and
there are no viable iPhone replacements for some of my must-have
    items

I have an 80 gig ipod that does well for music on the road, but I'm an
audiophile, so CDs, LPs, and a honkin' stereo for me. I rotate stuff on
my iPhone to fit my week, anyway.

Had a few bux invested in Palm apps for my Treo, but none were to die
for. Was easy to transfer all Palm contacts over.

Had my Treo for 2 years, never changed battery. A non-issue for me.

My GPS came installed in my Honda 5 yrs ago and I've loved every minute
of it. Will never buy another car without it.
And I love my IPhone too. Retired the 3G Nokia N75 3 months ago.
Iphone does everything I want/need. Even with the 4GB it's only half
full, I have enough movies and music to fill my free time. And my
fingers never tire from a few little stretch gestures, don't do much
pinching, and can't say I've heard of this...
I'd really like it if someday we only had about 5 phone models, like
with the old touchtone home models. Just so it does what I need without
having to know the name and model number, as well as read the whole
manual to be able to use it...

For +me+, what works best is to have basically my entire digital music
collection with me on one device. 8G won't hold even half that.

One of my "must haves" is something that will synch with MS Money. On
the Palm, that's Ultrasoft Money. Another is an encrypted password
safe that also syncs to a Windows desktop. I suspect that the later
will happen once developers start working with the SDK, but I'm not
    hopeful on the former.

I swap mine periodically. Moreso with the 680 than I did with the 650.

80GB won't hold all of mine (really). Maybe if super compressed, but
then crappy sound. I've got a collection acquired over many years.

Yes, would never use that stuff on a PDA/Phone. Plus, no Windows for me.
    Our office is all Mac.

Yes, I had the 650, heard the 680 was more of a drainer. Mine charged
fully until the day I sold it.

I need the checkbook aspect in order to keep some semblance of orderly
finances, and the password safe thing so I can log into my email, etc,
which has a non-mnemonic password I can never remember, when I'm away
    from my own computer. Etc.

It's not "more of a drainer", it's a smaller battery.

This is true. My wife's lexus has one built in the dash from the

Nuvi 660 in there and it has a faster responce then the factory one.
