A bunch of new stuff like this for the iPhone at CES according to a
report I just heard. It might have been on NPR which I was half
listening to on the drive home.

I also heard that they will anounce someting like five million sold by
Jan 1. We will know next week if that rumor was accurate.

This would never be needed If Apple were to have put a descent speaker in
the iphone in the 1st place. The speakerphone in the iphone is useless as it
    stands right now.

Let's make sure the figures include ONLY those iPhones sold to CONSUMERS
of ATT EDGE, not the Ebay resellers, various spammers who seem to have an
unlimited supply of iPhones less than half price with no contracts, etc.

It's easy to "sell 5000000 iPhones", if you sell them by the 100,000 lot,
wholesale, to speculators. You, technically, "sold" them as they are not
in your possession. But, they are not "sold" until they are online with
    ATT EDGE on a contract.

What we REALLY need to see is the number of ATT Contracts that have
iPhone serial numbers attached to them. THAT is the REAL number of
    iPhones SOLD.

Gold cleared $US890/oz in NY, today and is over $888/oz as I type this.

The devaluation of the Federal Reserve private banknotes goes on,
unabated, and NOONE seems to mind.....or even report it!

American workers will soon be at par with Chinese slaves as their wages
become more worthless by the day.

Rhodium is $6,840/oz, this week. How long can we buy catalytic
converters with precious metals in them like this?
How long before the chop shops stop stealing stereos and go for the
catalytic converters under the cars, totally unprotected?!

I don't think so. I've personally seen iPhones being used on the
subway in Hong Kong, in a coffee shop in Shenzhen, China and by an
acquaintance in Escazu, Costa Rica, and I'm pretty sure none of these
was on an AT&T contract (the last one certainly wasn't; I asked). I
travel a bit, but not nearly enough to have had the fantastic luck
of stumbling upon the only three iPhones that ended up unlocked and
in use overseas. I think this is where the difference between
Apple sales and AT&T contracts came from in the first quarter of
    sales.

I'm quite happy about that, actually. These are sales from which
Apple derives no continuing revenue stream, and I don't think Apple
should have been paid that way in the first place.

    Stupid.

I do have an iPhone on my belt here in Germany with E-Plus as my
carrier. The iPhone is unlocked & jailbroken.
Would you consider this iPhone NOT SOLD?

    Can't agree more!
These kind of deals are called "Koppelgeschäft" in Germany.
And they are forbidden by law. Which I totally agree with.
Think of it this way: In the future you can only buy a Honda if you buy
the gasoline from Chevron. Does this sound right? Not to me...

Hmm...great point. But, there must be some way of stopping them from
counting iPhones that have moved from Apple warehouses to dealer warehouses
that aren't sold to consumers. This is every business' way of increasing
sales figures, when in reality the actual sales are much lower. Look on
any car lot. Those cars AREN'T sold, but GM counts them as sold because
they sold them to DEALERS, making what they tell the stockholders a total
lie. They force the dealers to take them.

I've been in the music instrument business for years. It's certainly done
    there.

What makes you think, these iphones are laying in werehouses?
This is new technology which is not stocked up like corn flakes.

The inventory moves faster than the stuff on ebay. In a week from now,
the iPhone v.2 will probably be introduced.

Do you really thing any dealer will keep hundreds of iPhones in stock by
    these known facts?

There are no "dealers" per se. iPhones are sold by AT&T company stores,
and Apple company stores. No store is getting stuck with unsold inventory.
