With all due respect, why is this news? This happened almost immediately
upon the introduction of the iPhone, many months ago.
As for "they can't give them away", I think you're deluding yourself. This
is from a Sept 10, 2007 article:

Is yours a troll post? If so, I think I got caught. ;-)

It's hardly dumping if they are making record profits.
Dumping is selling at a loss, like Toshiba is doing with the HD-DVD
players.

Correction: For its 3G iPhone RUMOURED to be due our in June, or in
fact rumoured in some cases to be out "in the second quarter 2008".

Me. I don't have a digital camera, nor an iPod, nor a mobile phone
(iPhone is not available here yet, at least not officially).

Almost every company on the planet lowers the price of the "old model"
just before or when the "new model" arrives. It's standard business
practice to get rid of old stock still on shelves.

As I said before, "need" is a totally different concept to "want". It's
the greedy "want" that basically drives technology these days. The Mac
magazine I get interviews people about their Apple equipment, and it's
ridiculous how people (especially the "students") have multiple iPods -
the latest twit brags about having five of them! More money than sense,
or at least more credit than sense. :-\

Maybe not everyone in the world can be as fortunate as you were to be born

Although the telephone, Internet and health systems do indeed make New
Zealand appear to be a third world (if not fourth world) country, it
claims to be higher up the chain than that.
Personally I simply have absolutely no use for a digital camera, iPod,
PDA or mobile phone. For the last one I'm waiting for the G3 iPhone to
be released here ... probably some stage in 2010 judging by when we got
an iTunes store, but at least by then I might actually need one. :-)

I direct your attention to the EIGHTY DOLLAR DROP in the stock price
since only January 1, 2008 during the iPhone's wonderful sales "record
profits"
$80 represents a 40% DROP in the price of Apple stock since Jan 1, 2008.
"Record Profits" my ass......something bad is happening.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/it?s=AAPL
Now, I'd like to direct your attention to the forced reported stock
sales by the top Apple brass who know what's going on that YOU and Vic
don't.
Ignoring Al Gore's massive 600 shares for a moment before you start
laughing like I am, notice how FEW shares the other jokers at the top of
this dogpile actually own.

If my company were making "RECORD PROFITS" and its outlook were just
wonderful, I'd take those $5 (Jobs' option price) to $20 option shares
and PILE THEM UP FOR GREAT PROFITS! The list goes back to '06 and they
CONTINUE to dump shares, not buying any more AT ALL since Jan 2007!
That's real faith in Apple's company health, isn't it?! THEY DON'T OWN
THEIR OWN COMPANY STOCK! Look who dumped it at the bottom of the list!
9-Mar-06 JOBS STEVEN P
Officer 4,573,553 Direct Disposition (Non Open Market) at $64.66
- $64.66 per share. $295,726,000
Why would anyone be so stupid as to dump 4.5M shares when the stock was
headed for $200/share?? He doesn't "need the money"! Doesn't make any
sense. Insiders dump stock when they THINK the company is going DOWN!
Most curious...most curious, indeed.... His deeds don't reflect the guy

It's hardly that simple.

When did you become a mind reader to know why someone sold stock.
A minority of officers and directors sold stock, and certainly a small
portion of their holdings.
An expiring option?
A children's tuituion bills?
A new house to buy?
A margin call on other stocks?
are reasons to sell stock, that have zero to do with your fantasy
about Apple.
Then if you bother to read Apple's last quarterly report:
January 22, 2008—Apple® today announced financial results for its
fiscal 2008 first quarter ended December 29, 2007. The Company posted
revenue of $9.6 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.58 billion, or
$1.76 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $7.1
billion and net quarterly profit of $1 billion, or $1.14 per diluted
share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 34.7 percent, up from
31.2 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted
for 45 percent of the quarter’s revenue.
Certainly not a company in trouble. They did report a prediction of
rate of growth of sales slowing, and that adversely affected the stock
price, which had run ahead of reality.

You need to look at the Insider Trading again. Those shares reported to
EDGAR are the stocks held by the board of directors there at the top!
Algore has 600 shares!
