Makes sense, dumping old, unsold stock through Wally World. The
electronics department is full of it....obsolete
computers/laptops/peripherals. Wally World has always been that way.

.....still a little high priced at $99 for a drink coaster....

These will be 4GB iPhones. They are new stock.

    > The electronics department is full of it....obsolete

Really? A lot of companies (Nokia, Blackberry, etc) are trying in vain
to catch up to this obsolete electronic.

You're dreaming. Apple is already working on the next little piecemeal
toy to keep the fanbois in orgasm. The 4GB is old stock....they've
moved on to 8 and 16. Those will soon be old stock when the new toy is
revealed at some flashy show by skinny Steve in his sweater to the
drooling fans. He's already repeated it twice and you still can't see
it? Look in any Best Buy.

The recession/depression has upset the Apple cart, so to speak. Sales
of EVERYTHING is way off. Even BUDWEISER laid off 1400 in St Louis this
afternoon, a horrible concept Southern fishermen are going to have a lot
of trouble contemplating! 533,000 families are out of work in November,
alone...lots more than 533,000 people. The only solution to iPhones
cashflow problem over this reality is the redux in pricing, Apple biting
a painful pill it hasn't really had to bite before..price deflation.

Nokia is having similar sales disasters. They all are! Motorola is on
the verge of bankruptcy like GM/Ford/Chrysler.

I don't know where your money comes from, but you only need read any
news, especially financial news and look at Apple's stock price trying
desparately to stay above $100, today, before sinking back, to see
what's going on outside your little bedroom computer shack.

Didn't Bud recently sell to some Belgium brewery? Layoffs were bound to
    come if they did.

There was never a 4GB 3G iPhone previously, so how could they be "old
    stock?"

I wanted so much not to like the iPhone. I steadfastly refused to buy an
iPod, and haven't used a Mac since the original 512, many years ago. But
my contract was up on my old Razr V3 (a piece of junk if ever there was
one) and the appeal of a phone that could "do things" was attractive. So
a day after it came out there I was, standing in line late at night,
seeing if I could get in the door before closing time to get a silly new
    phone.

The darn thing works. With the 2.2 firmware update, it's been very solid
(initially it was prone to crashing & dropping calls), and I find myself
using a wide variety of its offerings, including email (which I
initially thought wouldn't work very well with its on-screen keyboard,
but it didn't take too long to get pretty good at it), texting, web
browsing (I can update information for emails to my elist on the road)
and the GPS/mapping function has come in handy several times. I've even
found several very useful apps, including a bicycle gearing program,
Bloomberg Financial, NY Times & AP on-line and a Windows remote-control
    app.

The darn thing works. That's really what it's all about, for me, in a
    nutshell. The main downside is that it eats its battery very quickly;
heavy internet usage can kill it in 6 hours (or less). I'm considering
getting an optional battery pack for those times when I'm on the road
(and not in a car, where it can be recharged).

For people like me, I doubt it matters that Apple has moved it downscale
by offering it to *Marts. I didn't get it for the image, I got it
because I can use it. It's a tool, not a fashion accessory.

Wait for it....think.....It'll come in a minute......

The 4GB phone is the OLD phone....right? Noone said it was 3G.

Apple probably has warehouses full of 'em....

Do you ever get tired of being wrong?
There has NEVER been a 4GB iPhone.
    It's new stock dumbass.

While there's never been a 4GB iPhone 3G, the original iPhone came in 4GB
    and 8GB models.

Note to Larry: not everything you read on the internet is true. Wal-Mart
will be selling the same 8GB model as everyone else, for $197 instead of
$199- not the $99 rumored earlier.

Larry cornered the market on the 4gig units when Apple discontinued
them. He bought up all their surplus at $175/pop, thinking he could make
a killing reselling them. He's got a warehouse full of 'em! But he
severely misjudged the appeal of the 3G unit, and couldn't sell them for
the $300 he was planning to (he was caught off-guard by AT&Ts subsidy,
bringing the 3G price down to $199 with contract). Of course, he thought
the immediate charm of the 3G unit would wear off after a while, so he
held onto them, only to see their value plumment even more. Eventually,
he became desperate, and offered them to *Mart for $50 each.

The poor guy got burned to the tune of many millions of dollars by the
iPhone. Is it any wonder he views it with such disdain? Cut the guy a
    bit of slack.

A lot of Walmart shoppers are going to be angry. The whole news
organization on the net and on TV swear it's going to be $99. The net's
    loaded up with it!
