Please frame your URLs in <> (not "") so they don't get mangled by

Why don't you use Firefox that doesn't require it?

Because the problem has zero to do with Firefox vs other web browsers.

The problem is that many newsreaders wrap URLs unless you include the <>
(including the one I'm using, the best one around and the only decent
    NNTP client available for Windows).

.....and because IE is way too stupid to ignore CRLF if you just copy and
past a multiline URL into it, unlike Firefox which KNOWS URLS don't have
CRLF in them so goes on turning a multiline URL into a working URL,
    anyways.

I'm afraid to ask what Safari does with a multiline URL.....

it's not just newsreaders. any text based application benefits from
    properly delimited urls.

    copy and paste? how primitive.

by properly delimiting urls, they become clickable in numerous apps.
without delimiters, it can often be very difficult to detect the start
    and stop of the url.

    > I'm afraid to ask what Safari does with a multiline URL.....

works just fine, including spaces. it's not as brain dead as you'd like
    it to be.

    Quite so.

You like the "User-Agent: MicroPlanet-Gravity/2.9.15", eh, Steve?
I like Opera, but it chose to wrap (and hence break) the original
(quoted) version of the URL, too :-{ . Did OK with your revision
of it, using angly brackets = lt and gt signs, though :-) .

Perhaps a mistaken reference to Thunderbird or SeaMonkey.

    Yes. Gravity *rocks.*

Used to use Thunderbird, but Thunderbird doesn't mark a crossposted
article as "read" in any newsgroup except the newsgroup you're reading
it in. A bug was filed at least 2-3 years ago and the bug has never been
    fixed.
