They sure are better about letting you get a new phone mid-contract. Anyone
know the specifics of their policy? A friend needed a new cingular phone
well within the contract period, and they sold them a new phone for the
regular activation price (plus a fascist $18, but better than an extra $200
like other carriers want).
Do they just have a larger grace period (like Verizon's "within 2 months" of
the contract end) that happened to come into play, or is it absolutely any
time, add $18 to get a new phone for the regular price (with contract
extension)? I don't buy the most expensive phones, but I am always wanting
whatever is new and cool looking. Otherwise I hate cingular for many
reasons and wouldn't switch, but I am a phone junky.
Also, IF I were able to get a new phone mid contract, would this new
contract add to the back end of the original contract, or start on the day I
got the new phone?
Thanks.

Re: One good thing about cingular
Current policy is this:
On a 1 year contract - contract must be completed.
On a 2 year contract - must be 21 months into the contract OR must be
12 months into the contract and pay at least $65 per month before taxes
average bill ( last three months usually all they look at )
There are other cases where a customer may have been on line for several
years and be at least 12 months into a 2 year cotract. In these cases C/S or
the dealers sales rep can approve the deal.

I would shop for the best 1 year deal, found my best deal at an indepentant
dealer inside of Sam's club. That way you know you can get a new phone every
year and you can pick from all the providers.

Maybe it was the $65 thing (they have several phones).
But one more thing I just realized. This was a TDMA>GSM upgrade. Maybe
that made a difference.

Re: One good thing about cingular
Usally 1yr contracts must be done and 2 yr contracts 18months, with
some exceptions.
Moving from TDMA to GSM service will shave 6mths off.
