I had a Nokia 5190 with an analog module using Cingular GSM and analog in rural ares. It worked fine but is very bulky with the module on it. I live in North Carolina and I bought an unlocked Nokia 6340i and put the SIM card from the 5190 in it. It works on digital but won't work on analog. Any clues? Thanks

You have to have your account provisioned for GAIT operation.
There is an ESN in your 6340i that will need to be added to your account.
You will still be able to use the sim out of the GAIT phone in a
normal GSM phone, but for TDMA/AMPS operation, you will have to
have the sim in the GAIT phone that you have on the account.
I do not know if you would have to change plans or not.

Unless you register it with your carrier it will not work. The analog
module has an ESN just the same as the 6340i has an ESN. Until you
register the ESN the only thing you can do with the analog side of the
phone is to call 911.

Yep. The GSM functionality travels with your SIM card, but the TDMA
and analog are tied to the carrier-controlled ESN.
Also remember that Cingular does not have roaming agreements with
analog carriers where Cingular notionally has coverage. This includes
all of the Carolinas, so having an analog capability may not get you
the coverage you expect.
