I wouldnt reccommend anyone use Cingular, they carelessly screwed up my
billing for over a year. Each month I would go thru the billing wasting time
pointing out errors. I dropped them for AT&T which had nice simplified
billing. I will now not be renewing AT&T because of Cingulars stench.

It is rare that you or me or anyone finds a company any company that
does good by all of its customers, some people are justifyably upset
and will not return. But if you, me or whomever listens to all the
storys, we would never buy anything, no car, no tires no cellphone no
home. We would just live in a log cabin that we built...

It is nice when someone takes the time to point out who screwed them
and how. It is up to us the reader to attempt to find the company
that we think is going to screw us the least or at least give us a
    kiss when they screw us.

Thanks or no thanks to the big buy their are now 5 big wireless
companys with millions of customers. Good luck to everyone attempting
    to make a intelligent decision.

The Cingular flyer i got at the store says unlimied nights and
weekends for most of the home plans and on line it says 5,000 minutes
nights and weekends for most of the home plans....

Or perhaps they companies would get a clue, and treat their customers
    decently.

Good point. I was invloved in a successfull small family business for
20 years, during our busy time we had to hire two employees. With what
we could afford to pay the help that we got were more trouble than
they were worth. I could do their work and mine faster than I could do
    mine and supervise them.

I live in a smaller city, but there are plenty of wireless stores. I
get so flustrated when i visit one and then another of the same
service and get conflicting information. I told one rep that i wanted
to be able to check my e-mail. She spent 15 minutes reading the manual
learning how to access a WAP site.... then told me she had 3 wireless
phones that she did not have to pay for. I then asked her would it not
be logical to set up one so that you could show a potential customer
how easy it was to access e-mail. She thought that was a good idea.

But if at&t will mess something up, and you need to talk to their cs, make
sure you put a half a day aside, their on hold time is really long. Hours
sometimes. And after that, there is a very good chance they will ship you
the wrong part for example. So make 20 cups of coffee and start the cycle
    again.
I just switched to Cingular. The signal quality from at&t was not even close
to cing, comparing gsm to gsm. Not to mention no dropped calls.
I used at&t few years back but then was like a different carrier.

Interesting in that Cingular has never offered 'unlimited' N & W minutes.
There always has been a finite limit. This was either a reseller or another
cell service you confused it with.

    Chris,
I don't understand all I know about wireless. But I'll tell you what I
have done. I visited 2 cingular only stores and one kiosk that sold 7
wireless/dsl/cable items. I picked up brochures at all 3, all the
    same.

The front of the brochure is orange and white with the splot and
cingular on it also it says TDMA/GAIT. Written in orange on white it
says "Cingular Home calling plans for TDMA and Mulit-Network (GAIT)
    Handsets, Florida."

I have at least 3 of these and just got the last one this evening.
    For $29.99 you get 300 min and 5000 N&W min. For $39.99 for 400
rollover to $249.00 for 3750 min rollover you get Unlimited night and
    weekend minutes.

The two stores said Cingular on them, doesn't sound like a reseller to
me. I could be wrong though. If you would like me to post a digital
picture of the brochure, let me know what binary newsgroup to post it
to. If you want to see it and hold it give me a snail mail address.

I'm relatively new at this wireless thing. The two stores offer phones
at different prices than the kiosk. The stores offer other things that
the kiosk does not. One place says you can change your plan whenever
you want, one place says you can't without extending your contract 1
year. My girlfriends contract ran out and she calls at will and
changes her plan. But she said it has to be a month at a time on
billing dates, i read here where somebody is doing it and getting it
    prorated for mid month.

It would be far easier for me to compare companys if all the people at
one company told the same story. At this point I am totally unsure
what would happen if I did go with cingular and needed to change
    something.

    i remain
painfully new and it is getting worse!

The kiosks definitely were resellers and can offer different packages than
corporate stores. The store can be a reseller or a company store. If the
store offered any other carrier but Cingular, it is a reseller. All of the
stores will have Cingular signs. To make any changes, you will be dealing
with Corporate Cingular, not the resellers. Whenever you change plans, you
will have a 2 year contract or extension. The resellers buy bulk mins from
Cingular and can package them any way they want to. Your girlfriend can
    change her plan when she wants, but each time a new 2 year contract starts;
they might not say that, but it is happening. If you look online for your
FL market, those are the plans Corporate Cingular is offering and many times
the brochures are out-of-date and they move you into the now offered plans.
I have been with Cingular from the beginning (originally SBC Ameritech).

    Chris,

    Chris,

Thanks for the update, it is worse that I thought! Depending on the
plan features and time 1 or 2 years, I'm looking at a $1000 to $2000
plus or minus for a wireless service. I thought used car salesman or
saleswomen were the only ones that stuck it to you!

    thanks,

ACtually.. you are getting 'reseller' and 'agent' mixed up. A
reseller is someone who buys bulk minutes from a carrier and resells
them under their own brand with their own billing and own pricing.
    (MCI, McCload, CellNet).

An agent is an independent owner who is selling the carrier brand. In
almost all agent situations, they cannot make their own pricing on
service plans or contract terms. That is set by the carrier unless
changed by a special bidding process. Even in that situation it is for
large acccounts and business customers, almost never retail. More
often than not, the only pricing an agent will have control over in
    retail is handsets and accessories.

Au Contraire. Radio Shack often has special deals on what it sells at
    variance from company stores.

ok, true. You're talking about a company with 6000+ retail outlets.
I'm referring to the agent that has 1 or a couple locals. There are
    always exceptions to the rule.
