    Good Day,

I am having trouble with my phone (really voicemail) in Atlanta. My
account is out of Birmingham (205) 515-xxxx. I am working over in ATL
and thus have my phone here. I left my phone at the house today and
was expecting a call. So I called my number (205) 515-xxxx so I could
enter the * to get into vmail and got someone else's v-mail. So I
checked my the number I called using the redial and lcd screen, sure
enough I dialed it correctly, this time it told me the number was not
a working number, repeat redial 3 more times. I got not working 2
more times and a completely different voicemail the 3rd time.

So I call Cingular CS, not much help. Finally got to a tech and was
given the ‘technical' reasons it had happened.. and they ‘fixed' them.
This is after a discussion of ‘wireless switch theory' with the
original CS rep. All is good…. After lunch tried my vmail again via
calling my phone, whamo ANOTHER persons vmail.. back to CS, no help.

They pulled the ‘your forwarding number' bit, but when ask why it was
working yesterday and still is not working all the time today, AND
they did not change them, they actually accused me of not dialing the
area code here from my land line. When I asked how that would send me
to 3 other people's voicemail they could not answer that one.

Is this a problem that anyone else has been having, how was it
    resolved?

    Shane

Re: Voicemail going to the wrong account

I haven't gotten anyone else's number. However, one day I called my wife
(from my cingular cell phone programmed with speed dial) to my wife's
cingular cell phone. Several times in a row I got a message saying my
wife's number was not a number in service. Bizarre. Now I KNOW my wife's
cell phone number obviously, and I was using SPEED DIAL (which I'd used
hundreds of times) to dial it. Yes, it was programmed correctly. But to be
sure, I tried dialing the number MANUALLY and got the same message (not in
service). After a few minutes of trying I finally got through, but it was
frustrating dialing the CORRECT number WITH AREA CODE and being told that my
wife's phone (on my account) was not in service. (!) -Dave

I had this happen several months ago when Cingular had experienced some
serious infrastructure problems, and some bozo had apparently reinitialized
the entire voicemail system sans passwords and correct forwarding. My advice
is to IMMEDIATELY change all your passwords!

    All, thanks for the responses!!

I know what you mean about being frustrated, they even went as far to
tell me that the speed dial I was using on my work phone was the
problem. I am an IT guy and work in the telecom (I write billing
software for phone companies), to say that I was mildy entertained by
the 'technical' answers that the reps gave me is an understatement. I
would have felt better if they would have blamed it on Sun Spots...

Again, thanks for at least letting me know that I am not the only one
    with Cingular problems.
