Since the AT&T / Cingular merger is almost in its final stages, and it looks
like it is going to happen with the ok of the FEDS.

    What to do????

I currently have AT&T's TDMA service, I would like a new phone and a better
plan than I currently have. AT&T will not set me up as a "New Customer" with
my old phone# and with all of there bells and hoopla of a new customer
(Bonus minutes/New Phone at a good price/Waived Activation aka they call it
a transfer or activation fee TDMA->GSM/ETC...) They only offer me a $30.00
credit!!!! and some small discount of a few bucks on a GSM crapy phone!!!

    Now what if I???

If I chose to go to Cingular as a new customer and "Port" my AT&T number
over to cingular, will I get all the goodies of a new customer????? Will I
be treated as a "NEW customer" or an existing AT&T/Cingular user and get the
same thing I would have if I dealt with AT&T in the first place.

Which will force me over to T-Mo, Verizon, Sprint, etc....

Plus I see that AT&T now has the Nokia 6820, which I am very interested in.
You think cingular would have that anytime soon???? Has anyone had some
experience with the 6820 or the 6800????

    ?????????

The merger (SALE) is in it's final stages? It was just announced a couple
of weeks ago. It is expected to take nearly a year (give or take) before
the customer sees a difference and the signs (& rate plans) actually change.

And based on my experience porting a number from ATTWS, it could be a done
deal before the port is completed...
