Programming Guide
Enhanced Preferred Scanning allows you to tell your cellular phone which
networks to register with when your home network is not available. You
can tag the System ID number of a particular network with one of three
types of preference (1) Home Preferred, (2) Roam Preferred, and (3)
Inhibit.
If your home network is not available, your phone will first seek
available Home Preferred Networks, then Roam Preferred Networks, and
finally any available network including networks that are programmed as
Inhibit.
Keep in mind: If you program a network as Home Preferred, the Roam
indicator will not be displayed when you are registered with this network.
Instruction: Key Sequence: Display:
1. Enter Enhanced Press 7, 9, 7, 4, 3, FCN, FCN Nam 1 Sys IDs
Preferred Mode (S-Y-S-I-D FCN FCN).

Re: StarTAC 7897
I just finished programming a startac 7797 from AT&T. It was a TDMA phone, I
do not know what the 7897 is (CDMA/TDMA/????).
Anyways they told me to power up the phone.
Press "FCN" and then 0000000000000 (thats 13 zeros) then "RCL"
You then get into a programming mode, that starts with "01" I do not know
what these mean but I will tell you what I have on my phone. Press the " * "
to advance to the next part. There are 12 parts
01 00025
02 area code
03 phone number
04 11 (they wanted me to change this value to 14 but the phone would not
allow me to)
05 02
06 10
07 000000
08 824
09 0333
10 0708
11 111100
12 11111
They had me go through this list and change some values, enter my phone
number, and check some values. I think if you press " # " key it will save
what you have changed.
Also you can get into programming your "NAM" by entering
#program# send
or
#7764726# send
You can also try this
1) # (Carrier sys ID) #* send
2) *
3) enter security code 000000 (6 zeros)
4) send
5) enter your phone#
6) Send
I was asked to do this for a MCI worldcom 7797 phone that I had, which was
really an AT&T phone sold by MCI. I now use it on a regular AT&T account.
hope this helps
