Well I have spoken to a CS rep. at AT&T today and they have V600's in stock
and are selling them to the public. I assume they are "Locked" into AT&T's
network, but I also assume they can be unlocked somehow later in the future.
But thats no big deal for me.

Does anyone know since Cingular and AT&T will become one later this year
(hopefully) will Cingular have the V600 under their lineup anytime soon???
AT&T looks like they are always adding and removing phones from the lineup
and Cingular has offered the same phones for the longest time...

The reason is I can Migrate/Port my current AT&T account and number to
Cingular, pickup a new plan and a new phone at a better rate, then upgrading
within AT&T. Since the merger if not complete yet and possible still up in
the air with some federal regulatotions.....I think I can go to Cingular as
    a "New" customer.....

AT&T likes to keep their promotions prices to "New Activations" and "New
Customers" only!!! Nevermind those that have been with them for many years
(10+), who currently have their service and has paid many dollars for their
    service!!!!

Three points I would like to make here.

Cingular will not offer the V600. I asked two or three weeks ago and was
told the V600 will not be in the Cingular inventory. I did go to a URL
(can't remember where) stating that AT&T will offer the V600 sometime in
the future. Seems like that was true.

My wife and I have V400's on Cingular and wondered if it was locked.
Someone sent me private email and told me to take it to a AT&T store and ask
if the V400 would work on the AT&T system. My goal was to find out if my
V400 was locked or unlocked. I did just that this morning. The AT&T rep
took out my SIMS chip, put the SIMS chip from his phone in my V400 and
placed a call. Yiippie, my phone is unlocked.

My wife and I plan on traveling in our RV this summer. We are concerned
about the lack of Cingular GSM coverage. Now that I have confirmed my phone
will work on the AT&T network, I can get on the AT&T $29.99 plan. When I
want to use my AT&T account, all I have to do is put the AT&T SIMS chip in
my phone and away I go. We can cancel this account once the AT&T Cingular
    network infrastructures become one.

If all else fails, we have a Verizon phone we can also use.

Finally, we closed our AT&T accounts last month in favor of Cingular. We
decided it would be better for us to get new mobile phone numbers. I have
read there may be difficulties porting from one carrier to another.

    Your mileage may vary.

    We live in Southern California.

    Hope this helps.

Or you could just get on the Cingular Nation Plan like the rest of us and
    roam on ATT free.

I didn't know that Cingular and AT&T had a roaming agreement if you were a
subscriber on the Cingular Nation Plan. I thought roaming charges were
$0.79 per minute in areas Cingular noted on their coverage map - that there
    was no coverage.

    Please advise.

    TIA.

I was roaming on ATT and Cingular network as T-mobile
subscriber earlier this year. No roaming charges was
posted on my account probably because T-mobile has
no coverage there. The area was AZ and NV along major
    highways.

Hmm, I just left a Cingular store earlier this afternoon here in TX and
was told that Cingular WOULD be carrying the v600 towards the end of
may. The manager of the store is the one who told me this. Granted,
everyone who works at a Cingular store seems to have their head
completely lodged where the sun don't shine, so I guess they could be
    wrong.

    Cingular and the V600

Its offical boys and girls, Cingular will be launching the V600 most likely before the end of the month. Yes on Cingular Nation GSM plan you do roam on AT&T and T-Mobile. And as the ad says you will never pay a roaming charge. Also I understand that all your feautres apply anywhere you use your phone. Cingular is slowly cutting ties with T-Mobile as needed.

    GSM-only coverage...

But without AMPS (analog) if you're not in a big city or on or very
close to a freeway, you could have zero coverage at all; and none of the
"GSM" phones I know of also have Analog capability.

It all depends where you live, work, and play --- that's why matters, and
clearly over 24M people have chosen Cingular. Get over it?

BTW, what service do you use? Let's turn the tables just a bit.
