My GAIT phone SE T62u recently stopped getting incoming calls and I
noticed that the signal meter is now a solid black mass instead of the
thin line it used to be.

I hear that this was due to Cingular testing the EDGE overlay, but of
course Cingular cust service "knows nothing about this" and any
salesperson I ask gets the deer in the headlights look.

I was able to use the *777* code to switch the phone to GSM only which
has temp solved the problem while I am in Madison, but would like some
answers to the EDGE question.

Should I think about a new phone now, or would it be worth waiting
until they have EDGE rolled out?
