Hey guys,
I have a Nokia 8290 on Tmobile.
Can I switch to Cingular and update that phone to work on Cingular??
The reason is, I have proprietary sw that works with only true GSM phones so
I want to keep my 8290.
Perhaps my question is: "Do new Cingular phones use proprietary
ATcommand-crap like ATT,Nextel,SPRINT"...
Thanks for any intelligence.
Jim

1. There are *lots* of other true GSM phones that should work
2. GSM is standardized -- there's no "proprietary ATcommand-crap".
3. TDMA, CDMA, and iDEN don't have "proprietary ATcommand-crap" either --
they're just different from GSM.
4. You can use your Nokia 8290 on Cingular *if* it's unlocked.
5. You'll be better off on Cingular (or ATTWS) with a phone that covers GSM
850 as well as GSM 1900. (The Nokia 8290 only does GSM 1900.)

Re: 8290 on Cingular??
Has anyone tried unlocking not with a datacable,
but instead via keypad with codes supplied from
www.mobileliberation.com ??
At $2.95, I am skeptical....
Thanks guys.

All of my phones with the exception of the Siemens were unlocked via the
keypad. Works fine!

Re: 8290 on Cingular??
I'm in Memphis. I think I will see if my phone is unlocked tomorrow (visit
Cingular) and if not, I think I will try the $5.95 keypad software to unlock
it. Thanks for the reply.
-Thanks, Jim
