No phone will operate 100% perfect all of the time. Although
the D.C. area is pretty well saturated, each carrier has
quirks that can drive you crazy at times.
VERIZON: Probably the best overall. However there are some
areas that still drop calls.
ATTWS: No bad .... but you'll lose signals on Route 66 in the
mountains.
CINGULAR: GSM needs some serious tuning. Otherwise, it works!
SPRINTPCS: Give me a break. Stay away.
NEXTEL: Pretty good, although coverage is not as good as the
others. The walkie-talkie (Direct Connect) kicks ass!
So, where were you when the lights went out?

Stay away from Cingular, customer support and billing are terrible!
I checked ny bill each month for mistakes that they made. Spent 20 minutes a
month on the phone getting them fixed only to have them F* up again the next
month.

Luck of the draw, I guess -- I personally had only one billing problem in
three years at Cingular, and it was fixed in less than 10 minutes.

Same here. Cingular CS has always answered my questions accurately, and any
problems I had were always handled quickly. When I had Verizon, though, my
bill was wrong every month, just like the previous poster.
