Hi
I am new to Cingular (came over from Sprint). I had been using the Sanyo
SCP4900, and I loved the reception and features on the phone. I got the
free Samsung phone from the Cingualr store, but I dont really think the
reception is all that great. Also some of the features are not all there,
especially the phone book/call back menus (no way to tell if they come from
a contact's cell/home/work) Anyway, I live in Chicago, and am looking for a
phone with the great reception I got from the Sanyo, . Any ideas???
Thanks
-Jim

For reception, you can't beat the Nokias. I think you'd find a Nokia
ANYTHING would be at least as good as your Sanyo, as far as reception and
voice quality goes. I wouldn't be surprised if you liked it even better
than the Sanyo. And Cingular is offering the Nokia 6010 right now for free.
Of course, I don't think you qualify for that rate, as you are already in a
plan. If you have to buy a phone anyway, I'd strongly suggest a Motorola
T720. Reception and voice quality of that phone are both very good, though
not *quite* Nokia quality. But the other features of the phone are great,
and that's what convinced me to switch from my Nokia. I use mine as a
simple PDA. Yeah, you can mark phone book entries with icons showing cell
phone, work phone, home phone, main phone, 1 other?, I think. You can also
have customized ringtones by phone book entry. The calendar is really cool
though. I use it all the time as a reminder (set alarms by calendar). I
think I'd be lost without it. Cingular doesn't sell the T720 anymore, and
you don't want the V400. But you can get brand new T720 Cingular phones off
ebay, which would be the best place to get a phone if you have to buy one
anyway. If you buy a Cingular phone off ebay, all you have to do is pop the
sim out of your Samsung and put it in your new phone. You don't even have
to phone Cingular to activate the new phone. -Dave

I would go with the Nokia before buying a T720 Moto.
T720 has poor battery life, for one thing, compared to most CPD's.
BTW, Whats wrong with the V600 and V400's?
I have both and they work just fine. Great battery life too, even with
Bluetooth.

I've read many complaints on the V400 and V600. I've also read that
Motorola recently recalled the V600 for a hardware problem. (tried to get
one from Cingular lately?) Considering the 400 and 600 are the same
generation (and likely same chipset with same hardware problem), I wouldn't
chance it. But then I also read that only a small percentage of phones are
affected. So it looks like you got lucky and your two phones are working
great.
Oh, and the T720 does not have poor battery life. We've got two of them,
left on constantly. If we forget to charge them they go a whole week before
complaining of low battery life. We're not alone. Before I bought a T720,
I talked to a friend of the family who had had one for a few months. She
reported no problems with it and still has no problems with it. It actually
has better battery life than the Nokia 3595 that it replaced, and I had no
complaints about THAT phone, either. I suspect the battery life problems of
the T720 are caused by people RTFM, as the manual only says to charge the
phone until it is full. Well it shows full in about 20 minutes, so people
who are having battery problems with the T720 are probably the ones who are
following the directions. -Dave
