Their customer service hours are terrible. They really need to be 24/7.
These are multi-billion dollar companies and really need to go to 24/7
hours. People don't stop using cell phones or stop working.

Re: One complaint about Cingular...
Of course...there are plenty companies that work 24/7. I won't answer your
specific question because it was full blown sarcasm and you know it's done.

Actually, YES!
They are selling a 24 hours a day 7 day a week service and need Customer
Service at all the hours that they sell for!
This is my biggest complaint

Do you suppose that we could all the millions to switch at once and TELL
Cingular that is why they are switching?
I suspect that that would be the only way they would get the message!

Well, with the purchase of ATTWS, Cingular will get an existing overnight
work force doing Customer Service. Perhaps we can encourage them to keep it?

India is 10.5 hours ahead of the USA. Set up a customer service center there
and they would be working days, but talking to US customers at night.

I have no doubt that Cingular pays close attention to the number of defections
and to the reasons for those defections. Carriers know that we may complain
about customer service, but in reality we usually switch for reasons of price,
not customer service.

Re: One complaint about Cingular...
I have used customer service on a number of occasions and can find nothing
about which to complain. The representatives have been exceedingly helpful,
friendly, and apologetic almost to the point of being obnoxious for any
delays or inability to immediately solve a problem. the only conclusion I
can reach from reading this thread and a few others on this newsgroup is
that some people are impatient or have unreasonable expectations.

They obviously don't care. They will not start caring until enough of us
vote with our feet. Number portability was supposed to cause a decrease
in rates. Maybe enough time has not passed, but I cannot wait until the
cellular phone companies are hurting and have to cut prices.
Their research has shown that $39.95 is the working price point for
subscribers. That's too much money. They're gouging. We'll see what
their real margins are when they have to compete.
The good news is that the customer service cannot get much worse. I just
stood in line for 48 minutes to get a snotty woman who couldn't care
less that I have been with Cingular since 1997.

You guys have off-hours tech support; which is better than nothing (unless
they stopped that since I left last spring).

Re: One complaint about Cingular...
Wrong. Cingular has taken steps to limit what their CSRs can do for their
customers. The latest downgrade in service was on August 1st, when they
shut down their service centers in the retail stores, and forced their
customers to use mail-order phone repair/replacement for warranty
repair/replacement. Wouldn't be so bad if they overnighted you a free
replacement phone right away, but it takes up to a week to get one shipped
out. Meantime, no working phone until the new one arrives. Poor, very
poor. They also don't give a customer service email to receive feedback
about this new policy. Kind of convenient for them. The execs can say the
new program works great because they've received no complaints. Note that
every one of Cingular's competitors provide a customer service email
address.

Re: One complaint about Cingular...
No, it's just that when I have the time to call customer servive they're
always closed! Their website is open 24/7 and they take orders 24/7, so why
not have a customer service department open 24/7 or at least EVERYDAY...like
Verizon. I mean they can add a shift to accomodate this...it's not brain
surgery here.
