I'm currently trying to initiate cellular service for my wife and I and my
FIL using a Cingular family plan. Since my part of Florida is still
recovering from Hurricane Ivan, the local Cingular stores are packed with
people getting replacement phones, etc. I decided to sign up online and
have Cingular ship me my phones.

I did this yesterday. Although I am not in an immense hurry, I did notice
today that when checking my order online it reflects the following:

    1. SIM Order number:1010
    Ordered: 09/28/04
    Qtty Ordered: 1
    Qtty Shipped: 1
    Qtty Backordered: 1

(I'm not sure why they show the ordered date as 9/28, since it was confirmed
on 9/27, but I'm not quibbling over minutae.)

Each of the items I ordered (3 phones) is reflected as backordered--both the
handsets and the SIMs. Specifically, I ordered 2 Samsung X427Ms and 1
    Motorola V400.

Given the backorder status it doesn't seem like that I'll get the order
within three to five business days as my order confirmation states. Does
anyone know what I should expect here as far as timeframe? Seems kind of
odd to me that a company that only offers a handful of phone models with
their service plans would be out of all of those items. Is this in any way
related to the storms which have affected the state? (I'd think not, but
    who knows.)

When I try to initiate service with my wife, I find it helps
to compliment her first, then rub her shoulders.....

Unless I'm mistaken, when I ordered my phones I got the same message. But
the phones were shipped on time.
