Hi,
I'm trying to link my cell phone to a laptop. Anyone have information on
how to do this?
Some questions.
1. What bit rate does the irda run at?
2. What irda protocol is used?
3. What irda driver works with Windows xp?
Thanks

Usually 115 Kbps, 1,150 Kbps, or 4,000 Kbps.

The standard IrDA protocol.
>3. What irda driver works with Windows xp?
Windows XP has IrDA drivers for popular chipsets (e.g., TI).

Thanks for the reply. I've got some progress.
I am using an IBM thinkpad 770. Windows installs an IR device and it uses
serial port resources. The LG software does not access this device. I
installed IrCOMM2K which seems to wedge itself between the IR device and
COM port 4. The LG software does recognice COM4. With this setup, I can
detect IR activity with an IR detector connected to a scope. The LG phone
sometimes shows two way communications( IR icons in both directions on
phone), but no data is actually transferred. Any ideas?

Get better software and/or more current hardware. Seriously.

Re: Help LG1200 irda connection
Random,
I had problems trying to get my son's LG1200 to work w/ his HP laptop.
The two would connect over IR, but the transfers were getting an
error, something like unrecognized format or some-such thing. This
was two months ago, so i've forgotten most of the details. He'll be
back for Thanksgiving, so I might play with it more.
Back then, when i did a google search, supposedly, LG had an IR driver
on their website, but no one writing in the posts could find it.
I don't have the time to check for it now, but I'd suggest starting
there--at LG's website.

Re: Help LG1200 irda connection
I think you need Windows 98 or XP. Windows 2000 did not include the
right IR drivers. I ran into this with my Palm device. Upgrading to
Win XP did the trick. But XP would be a big burden for a 770.

770? FWIW, XP runs just fine on my old 300 MHz laptop.
