Has anyone in the Denver area migrated from ATTWS to Cingular? It seems the
coverage should be exactly the same since there was no Cing in denver
before, but i just wanted to hear peoples thoughts. I'm currently under
contract w/ ATT TDMA, but i'm wondering if anyone got a good deal on a phone
    to switch to Cingular GSM.

If i sign a new contract with Cing, and don't like it, i have 15 days to
cancel, do i have to go back to ATTWS and my old contract, or can i go
anywhere with my current phone number?

I've been reading the group and haven't seen anyone touch on this.

    Thanks for any info.

Coverage most likely WON'T be the same, since the TDMA towers and the
Cingular GSM towers are most likely not the same towers.

You can't even if you want to.

In most cases they will be the same towers, as a result of GSM overlay.

That has happened in some cases.

    Alex,
GSM coverage with Cingular will NOT be the same as AT&T TDMA in Denver, but
will be someday. There are lots of holes, especially along I-70 in the
mountains. Cingular will eventually fix all this up and it will eventually
be as good. AT&T introduced GSM in Denver at 1900 MHz, but from their 850
MHz sites. Not an optimum situation.

Outside of town, their GSM roaming agreements aren't as good as the TDMA
agreements. Cellular One supports GSM in rural Colorado, but also at 1900
MHz. If you stay in town, GSM will work for you. I am now able to hold a
continous call on AT&T GSM on my 13-mile commute in SE Denver, but going
skiing, the first dead zone is right at the hogbacks.

Yes, they should give you a $150 credit on a new Cingular phone. But it
will be a challenge to go back once you switch.

Thanks Bill, that's the kind of information I was looking for.
I went ahead and made the switch anyway. We'll see how it goes.
