I recently transferred my AT&T account to Cingular. My Cingular plan is
$99.99 monthly with $9.99 additional for my husbands phone. I get 2000
anytime minutes.
The sales rep that talked me into transferring to cingular told me that I
could keep my 7pm night rate.... he failed to tell me that there would be a
charge.... There are many instances of getting different stories from
different customer service reps....Do they not all get the same training???
The Welcome Kit says that there is a 10 cent per minute fee (plus airtime
usage) for forwarding my calls from my cell. I called 2 different times to
verify this. One rep told me that there is NO fee per minute. Another rep
told me that I will be charged double minutes ... (incoming to my cell and
outgoing to my land phone)... but no 10 cents per minute. I now have 3
answers to my question. I home office and
have a poor cell signal at my house.
I would like to forward my cell calls to my home office land phone when I am
at home... but I would really like to
know what it will cost ....

The guy on the phone? If so, I'd ***** up a storm until that fee was
rescinded.

Zero, if you use FastForward.

"To use FastForward, you will need a compatible phone, cradle/charger,
and unlimited Call Forwarding on your account." If you have unlimited
CF on your account, you don't pay for forwarding, whether you use FF
or not.
Cheryl - right now, you'll get as many answers to a question to
Cingular as the number of people you ask. No one at Cingular has a
clue, so they can't train the CS reps. You'll have to give it a few
months, at least, to shake out.

But with FastForward, you pay something like five bucks a month for
unlimited FastForward.
This has caught some folks by surprise, as they thought their five bucks
paid for ANY forwarding. Nope--only when the phone is in a cradle.

FastForward has been around for well over a year. Nothing to shake
out--it's all well known.

Is there any reason why using standard GSM codes wouldn't do the same
thing as using the FastForward
(**21*[tel number]#<send>) since the instructions to deactivate say
that you should key #21#<send> to turn off forwarding. How could the
system know any difference between what the FastForward cradle does vs
what manual forwarding since it evidently activates the same message
to the switching equipment.

There is no requirement to use the cradle--the GSM **21* codes work fine
with no extra fees or minutes IF you have Fast Forwarding (unlimited
forwarding) on the account. Many many users over on howardforums have
been using it since it came out without ever buying the cradle. The
cradle, besides being a charger, just makes it easier to forward and
harder to forget to unforward.

Actually, from reading the page about FastForward it says that you
have to *manually* cancel forwarding by using the *21 code so it's not
automatic.

Really? That's not how my FF feature works.

Activation has been around for many years, but we still have less than
40% of them going through without problems. (I'm still waiting for 2
ports I did at 5:30, and it's 11:17 now.)

No, from the user guide:
http://www.cingular.com/customer_service/fast_forward
To Start Call Forwarding:
- Simply insert your phone into the FastForward device.
- The Forward indicator on the device will illuminate indicating
your incoming wireless calls are now forwarded.
To Cancel Call Forwarding:
- Press the Cancel button on the front of the FastForward device.
- The Forward indicator will extinguish after several seconds.
- You may now remove your mobile phone.
Semi-automatic but still easier than entering a code. The *21 codes are
not even mentioned anywhere in the manual but the troubleshooting
section on the page above describes the cancel code in case you forget
to cancel from the device--perhaps that's what you were reading.

Alternative: make the forwarding code and telephone number an address book
entry; likewise the cancel code can be another entry.

One of several sites providing GSM codes, as returned by Google:
