I'm sure I know the answer but I'll ask anyway. I am looking for a
relatively economical cell phone (preferably AWS/Cingular) that is both a
phone & a Palm Pilot. I know something like the Treo is very much out of my
price range but I am only looking for those two features (phone & Palm). I
don't care if I can check email or even have any web access, cameras,
Bluetooth, or any of that stuff. Does such an anima exist?

There are some Treos out there you can get off of E-Bay I got one for a
friend I think it was a 190 for 60$ brand new and it worked with Cingular.
It didn't have a colour screen but he really liked it.

With the GSM Treo 650 about due out, the price of the Treo 600 will
tumble in a month or too.

It's already down to $349.99 for a new Cingular user

It would have to tumble another $200+ for me to start considering it. I
think I like the idea of the 190 type mentioned in the previous note if it
    works okay.

The phone that the OP was referring to is the Handspring TREO 180. One of
the first real PALM/PDA combos, it is a Mono screen (rather hard toread
Greenish/grey display)16MB Palm OS Based unit with a GSM 900/1900 mHZ device
(maybe an issue with the Cingular 850 areas) It came two ways, early models
without GPRS and later models with (there is a ROM upgrade available. Also
the TREO 180G had the grffitti area and the TREO180 has a keyboard. Most
units you will find on EBAY are TMOBILE branded, and many are locked. While
they are unlockable with a code, can be a hassle. Overall good units, until
they fail (internet searchs willklead you to see a rather high failure rate,
of course there are many who love their TREO 180. ) They also had the next
version which was the TREO 270/300 (CDMA and GSM versions) mostly same unit
with Color screen lil bit faster CPU.

I may have one for sale in a week or so, drop me a line if interested . Just
post here and I will contact you, wouldnt want to be accussed of SPAM.

Don't be intimidated. Individuals with a personal once a year sale is
hardly SPAM, and only one poster might complain. A commercial outfit
frequently posting with exaggerated descriptions and misleading sale
prices might be SPAM, but in an unmoderated newsgroup, anything goes.

Nope. That's specifically allowed by the charter, as you would know if you'd
    actually read it:

Non-commercial For Sale and Want To Buy notices for compatible
products, tagged in the subject line with "FS" and "WTB" respectively
(without the quote symbols), are permitted.

Nope. The charter governs the newsgroup. That you can get away with
violating it is no more relevant than getting away with any other offense.
