I am trying to associate a picture with an entry in the phone book. I
transferred a jpg to the picture folder using phone tools. However,
when I look for a picture to associate I see only a few that came with
the camera. How can I get my picture where it needs to be in the
phone so I can attach it to a phonebook entry?

I've doofed around with this also, and the only way I've been able to
associate an image with a phone book entry is to actually capture the
image with the built-in camera. It uses the date/time for the image
name, so if you do this for a test, look and see where the image went,
and put your keeper image in the same location to see if it can be
    selected for a phonebook entry.

FWIW, I had no problem doing that with the latest version of PhoneTools.

I did take a picture, and found it in the same folder where I put the
picture I wanted. I transferred it to the PC before I tried to
associate it with a address book entry, but they were both jpg's in
the same folder, so not sure that would make any difference. I need
to find where the phone is storing the pics that you can select when
you go to picture in the address book entry..

Did you create a new folder in the phone called "My Pictures". If so,
how did you get the phone to look in that folder to associate the pic
with the address book entry? I don't see any way to look in other
    folders.

No. I used the My Pictures tab in the File Transfer applet.

OK. That's exactly where my jpg is located. Now, how can I make the
phone find it? That's not where the other pictures are located that
are selectable when you try to associate with an address book entry.

I'm baffled... it sounds like even though you've got multiple pics in
the same folder, not all of them are available for address book links -
and that just doesn't make sense, so there's still something we don't
    know. hmmmm....

No. NONE of the pictures in My Pictures are available for address
book links. I don't know how to get the pictures from the My Pictures
folder to something the camera can find to use.

From my copy of moto_v551.pdf ....

Storing a Picture for Caller ID

You can store a picture for an address book entry. The
picture appears when you receive calls from the entry.

Note: This option is not available for entries stored on the
    SIM card.

When creating an address book entry, scroll to Picture and
press the CHANGE key. Press S to select a picture, and
press the SELECT key to store it for the entry.

Yes, I had read that and had followed it to the letter. The problem
was that there were no pictures to select from except about 6 that
seemed to come with the phone. One was a sunset, etc. However, while
I was on a trip this week, I tried it again and there were all kinds
of pictures in there, including the one I had loaded. Don't know
where they came from, or how they got there, but it seems to be
    working now.

Okay, that's good news, didja power it down at some point?

I'd like to figure out how to delete those other lame pics that came
    with the phone.
