My contract is expiring with Verizon and I am thinking about switching to
Cingular. I live in the Albany, NY area and mainly use my phone in the
northeast. Any comments on coverage? Thanks.

Your best bet is to sign up for a new phone and try it. You have 30 days to
    cancel without penalty.

    John,

Stop telling everyone they have 30 days free. They don't. They have 30 days
or 30 minutes of call time, whichever comes first.

Not according to the Cingular Terms of Service; it explains it quite
    clearly.

You don't get 30 days FREE. You get thirty days to cancel WITHOUT early
termination fees. There is a difference. You pay activation, and for
whatever features you used (including roaming, if applicable) for the
time period in which you had the phone.

Cingular is very good in Albany NY. In my experience coverage is
even better than Verizon, just make sure your phone support 850 and
    1900 bands

It'll cost them about a $100 with a typical $39 plan to try out a pphone
    for 30 days.

And it'll cost them an extra $200 to try it out for 31 days instead of 30.

Oh, that was fun... I use it here (Albany area) as well, and like the
coverage...was AT&T and the use anyones cell tower with no roaming charge is
a great feature...UT OH the Verbage POLICE are coming... I better add (with
the national calling plan at 39.99 or 59.99 plan only) heh heh Marci Dam was
a Verizon only location fyi, not that cell coverage should have been there
anyway, but it was with one of the 2 Verizon phones last summer...

You will also benefit if you wait till your contract has fully expired, as
the online deals regularly feature free fones reduced activations and even
pay you money for using them (wirefly, inphonic, etc)
