Hi All: I ecently signed up for family plan under cingular. What a rip
off. The plan was supposed to be 59.98/month. Got the bill (after one
complete cycle) and the taxes alone totaled over $12.00/month. Anyone
know how I can file a compalint with the MA attourney general. I want
to bail out of this plan. The salesman who sold me the plan said the
taxes woud be about $5.00. What a real scam.
    Cingular sucks big time.

You're probably out of luck. In all likelihood you signed a contract with
Cingular that detailed that there'd be various taxes, fees, etc., and while
the actual rates probably weren't specified, and while you probably figured
the salesman's figure of ~$5 was valid, since you signed on the dotted line
you no longer have much recourse.

Even if you convinced some judge that you were outright lied to (effectively
impossible), you've only been 'damaged' to the tune of $7*12 months
(assuming a one year contract)=$84, which is far less than the value of the
    contract to Cingular.

If you make a big enough stink about it and back it up with facts, you could
perhaps convince Cingular to issue you a credit for $84.

It's not just Cingular, all the cell phone service providers do this. So,
while it may be a scam, at least you can still compare rates between
    companies!

Exactly how in the hell is it Cingulars fault for taxes? These are
government imposed and they have no control over that. Let me guess, you
didnt get taxes at tmobile or sprint?

Taxes may be only $5, but Fees, and "Cost Recovery items" add to your
    bill.

Good luck getting out of your contract.

It truly is a ripoff. Why anyone would live in MA is beyond me. They don't
    call it Taxachussetts for nothing.

Your right, MA sucks for taxes and other reasons.
I am terminating my contract. I simply stopped paying for service and
will not pay the termination fee. I don't care about getting bad
credit for this, I'll live through it. I do get taxes from Tmobile but
they are not 20% of the bill. Cingular consists of some real scum bag
sales people. Verizon is the same way which is unfortunate, they used
to be a good company before the wireless generation.

I didn't say I was going to get a lawyer, I simply will not pay the
termination fee. I don't care about the consequences of not paying. In
my lifetime I have always payed my credit card bills on time and I
have good credit. When I buy something on credit I pay for it. For
this particulare transaction, I feel that it was mis-leading and I
don't care about fine print, bold print or any print. I will simply
not pay. What are they going to do, kill me? Cingular can go to
    flaming hell.
As far as my credit rating? I don't care. I don't need any credit
anymore at this point n my life.

Why risk your rating unnecessarily? Just dispute the charge for cause, and
let your credit card company sort it out.

You might want to consider that a lot of insurance companies now use
credit ratings to determine insurance rates. Not sure how much one bad
credit hit would affect an otherwise good credit rating, but it's
    something to think about.
