Tonight I was visiting relatives and tried, for the first time on a new
Cingular account, to send a camera capture on my Cingular V551. I was in
an area with excellent signal strength and the display said CINGULAR. The
GPRS indicator was on. On 4/4 tries, it started to send (sending in
progress) and then said "error". I thought for a while that my account
might not have been set up properly.

On arriving home, I checked and found MMS was listed. Tried again to send
the same camera phone picture from my outbox, and it was sent (and
    received) on the first try.

Why would MMS work at home, but not 40 miles away in the same state?
Could the ATT tower/Cingular tower/roaming distinction be at work here?
