    Re: Text Message counting

If you are not on any specific text messaging package you pay $0.10 incoming
    and $0.10 outgoing.

    Sucks, doesn't it?

I thought Verizon was bad charging .02 cents to receive a message, but
    Cingular takes the cake.

In fact, I dont know of any other provider that charges as much to receive a
message. ATTWS used to have unlimited free incoming messages, and only
    charged to send.

    Re: Text Message counting

THAT, is the main reason I'm hanging onto my ATTWS plan for as long as
Cingular will allow me. I use text messaging a lot for work. So far
this month, I have sent 54 messages, and my guess is that I send 1 for
every 2 that I receive, so my guess is that I've already received over
100 this month. If I had to pay for receive, it would cost too much.
I wonder if putting "pressure" on Cingular would do any good to them
changing their text messaging plans. Perhaps they are trying to cash
in on the youth market that sends text messages back and forth to each
other. My office uses text messaging to dispatch service calls to the
technicians in the field, so it would not be economical for all of us
to switch to the cingular plans (rollover). All of us are staying
wtih our old ATTWS plans for as long as we can....

You *DO* know that Cingular offers packages of messages? See:
    https://www.cingular.com/media/text_messaging_purchase
My 250/$5.99 package doesn't seem to be offered anymore although it
might be available anyway. But any of the plans would be better than
    paying 10cents a message.

I am not sure what to quote to reply to this thread.

This must be the particular plan that you are on. SMS messages TO my wife and
son who both have Cingular service costs nothing. Sending an SMS message from
their phones costs 10¢ a message. They know not to send any and typically I see
maybe one or two sent from my son's phone but I send them messages all the time
    and there is no charge.

What plan do you have? The plan that they are on is the recently short offering
of 1000 minutes for $39.95 with Rollover minutes. I don't think that the plan
    is offered any more.

    Oh yeah -

My AT&T phones do not cost anything to receive SMS messages. But once again
they do charge 10¢ to send a message. On my GSM phone I typically will run $6
to $8 a month for "data".

I have a T-Mobile SideKickII that is all data basically and for the monthly
charge SMS, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, E-Mail, and Web Browsing (which I don't use
very often) are all part of the plan - unlimited.

So guess what I use for SMS and E-Mail while I am away from the laptop.

I think it would be something if Cingular would also allow your text
messages to rollover like your anytime minutes on select plans.

I am a former ATTWS customer. We were never charged for incoming messages,
and Cingular had pledged to continue all ATTWS plans after the merger. So
far they have kept their word. I continue to receive free Mobile-to-Mobile,
7 pm N/W, and free incoming text messages.

Eventually I'll have to switch out of TMDA, and I presume that Cingular will
then offer me options that are not as good as the ones I now have. No
problem. I'll just port over to another carrier, and life will go on for me
    and for Cingular.
