I switched from AT&T to Cingular in Dec.

AT&T charged me for text messages sent, no charge for received.

Cingular is charging for both sent & received. AM I special or is that
    SOP?

It's SOP **AND** you are special!

    Re: Text Message counting

That is the #1 reason I'm staying with my old AT&T plan. Last spring,
I bought the 100 send message for 4.95/month. I receive from work
probably 100-150 messages per month an send anywhere from 60 to
75 message per month. If I had to pay for send AND receive, it would
cost way more than my current plan has. As long as Cingular keeps me
grandfathered on my old AT&T plan (nationwide GSM 800min + 300 bonus)
    I'll just stay with that.

Cingular charges for both incoming and outgoing, unfortunately.

They also charge for SPAM, and sometimes even for messages they
themselves send you (it happened to me, and took a lot of grief to get
    credited back for them).

I solved the problem, I had messaging turned off on my account.

    Re: Text Message counting

Now that I came over to the Cingular side when I got my MPX220, I now find
they're charging me for incoming text messages. That in itself sucks, but
what's worse; I'm receiving duplicate messages from friends on Verizon
because of a glitch in their system. The other day I got four duplicate
messages and have to pay for each one. Obviously Cingular has no control
over this because the problem isn't with them, but the rep I talked to was
pretty dismissive about it. I'm finding a lot of reasons to regret this
    switch.

I searched around on their website quite a bit tonight and found it quite
hard to find an answer to my question. How much does Cingular charge to
recieve a message with and without a messaging plan?

Please tell me they dont charge 10cents either way.

Depends on the plan. See <http://www.cingular.com/media/text_messaging>
and <http://www.cingular.com/media/text_messaging>. Bear in mind that both
incoming and outgoing messages are included in the count.

As usual Navas snips out the relevent part of the message. How childish.

Sorry. The 2nd URL is reached from the first by clicking on Sign Up, and
    should have been <http://www.cingular.com/media/text_messaging_purchase>.

So with no plan, its 10 cents to send or receive? Didn't Cingular used to
have free incoming messages, but pay to send?

    Correct.

    That's ATTWS, not Cingular.

p.s. Please don't switch posting styles (top vs bottom) in mid-thread -- it's
confusing, and considered a bit rude. Thanks.
