Last January I signed up with an ATTws plan that stated if I continued to be
a customer in good standing, concurrent to my two year plan. I would get a
'free phone' every year on the anniversary, January 5. I signed up all four
phones, I figured even if they are the cheapest phones going I could resell
them and buy what I wanted.
Called (611), ATTws, Cingular answered and wouldn't honor the plan, even
though she acknowledged its existents, but asking if I could prove it! When
I said it had been on the website under my account and it wasn't there
anymore!
Is there somewhere to go to get square treatment?

Try calling back until you get a different and more helpful person -- I find
that's often enough. Otherwise file a complaint with the BBB (easily done
on-line), which seems to be the easiest way to get the matter escalated within
Cingular.

AT&T Wireless no longer exists. You can't have any deal with a now defunct
company.

Ummmm . . . does that mean that the OP is no longer getting billed for
wireless service? After all, the company no longer exists, so they must not
be sending out monthly bills. -Dave

Not true -- the merged company (called Cingular) acquired both the assets and
the liabilities of the two separate companies, and is thus obligated to honor
promises made by ATTWS.

Yeah, so what should the man do to get Cingular to perform? We know
calling BBB is worthless.

Re: Can someone help me! Cingular not living up to deal!
I couldn't be the only one who enrolled in that program. It was a great
giveaway, it stated they would give you a free phone every year you remained
a loyal customer, the time was concurrent with the required 2 years
agreement to get the nice phones and rebates.
I mean the CSR acknowledged the program but said Cingular (after speaking to
her supervisor) wasn't going to honor the obligation! But they would give me
a free phone if I give up my 950 anytime minutes/4 phone lines/unl M2M/unl
N&W/free incoming SMS messages/ extra minutes $.4, to upgrade! to 450
minutes/5000 N&W/ unl M2M/$.10 per SMS/extra minutes $.45! They must think
people are devoid of any intelligence!
I guess till a better deal comes along I will go month to month till
Cingular takes my plan away and chases me to another carrier! I miss the old
AWS, at least here in Florida they were tops for me!
If no help there how about the $25.85 in taxes on a $69.95 plan! I believe
they are overstating the cost (on each extra line they mark it up to $19.95
then discount each line $10 [but not the taxes], but its not what I signed
up for the advertising was clear $9.95 per line) then taxing on the higher
number. Taxes on the extra lines are $4.70 on $10! Add the cryptic $1.75 per
line blah blah. I believe if you say it costs $9.95, it should cost $9.95
not $16!
If there are taxes to be paid shouldn't the phone company pay them aren't
they the one making the profit??
Ben
I can't see anything to be done. Probably go to pay as you go.

Really? I seem to remember you using BBB figures over in the Sprint PCS
group when you were having one of your hissies. The numbers would good
enough for you to try and trash a company. Why the change in heart? Did
you not automatically get your way? Did they actually believe the
documentation provided by the company you whined about?

Again. You really need to KNOW what you are talking about before posting.
Your reply is total and complete nonsense.
How do you function in life being this stupid.

You obviously don't understand mergers. Here's a start:
Q. If I have a contract for services or goods with a company that
goes out of business, what can I do?
A. If another firm bought the company, as in a corporate merger,
usually the new company must take responsibility for the contract
obligations of the old company. ...

BBB is worthless, they're paid by Cingular.
Likely best bet, a factual non judgemental letter to his State Attorney
General with a certified copy to Cingular HQ.
