Hello,
I ordered my goPhone from the web yesterday and received the phone and
the SIM chip today. However, the "how to activate" part and my cell
phone number are nowhere to be found. All there was in the "How to get
started" envelope was the SIM chip.
After 1 hour of trying to get a live person on their attrocious customer
service I got a dude that tells me how I should receive the "getting
started"
stuff on monday. This doesn't sound right as the order status page says
that both orders (phone and SIM) were shipped and delivered.
I should also mention that I never received a confirmation e-mail.
What gives?

Is it an AWS GoPhone or a Cingular GoPhone? Yes...
there is a difference. If you'll tell me which one I'll post the 800
activation number for you.
Did you call customer service from the phone you wish to activate? On
certain phones it'll take you straight to the activation center.

Hello,
It's a Cingular GoPhone. I called customer service from my home phone.
I tried to activate it on their customer service phone number and web but
it asks for my cell phone number and I have no idea what it is. I couldn't
find it anywhere in the package they sent me so I am thinking that something
is missing. The phone says "Inactive SIM" when I turn it on (I did put the
SIM card inside).

Write down your sim number(20 digits) and IMEI number(15 digits), you'll
need them for activation, and call 1-866-499-7888. Follow the prompts and
you are on your way.

Thanks a lot, that worked.
I am off to a bad start with Cingular it seems. This info should have come
with
the phone. Their customer service was useless, telling me that I'll receive
additional info on monday, which is a lie since all the packages in "my
order"
are delivered.

Yes the activation information should have come with the phone. Mistakes
happen. Especially with 49 million customers and more added daily. Odds are
something is going to go wrong with somebody, with something, somewhere. I'm
sorry you hapened to be the "lucky" one.
As far as cutomer service goes, you got ahold of a moron. I have to deal
with these folks daily and occasionally you have to deal with some real
dumbasses. BUT....this isn't the majority of Cingualrs CS reps. Most are
good people.
Good luck with your goPhone. It's a good value for prepaid services.

I'm not sure. I think maybe it's a massive conspiracy to make money by
denying people services that they've rightly paid for thereby making them
leave and go to the competition.
But then again.....you put yourself forward to be an "expert" with Cingular
policies and services so why don't you tell me.
