    Greetings all,

Is the Nokia 3120 the current phone to beat in the RF and audio
    department?

It's time for a new phone as my GAIT Nokia 6340i is starting to flake
out on me after being dropped a few too many times. It remains a
beautiful performer in the RF dept for me when I was GAIT-TDMA. Audio
wise, my only half complaint is that I wish it were a little louder
into my headset. I will keep it around and use it when travelling
howveer, to continue take advantage of TDMA and AMPS networks. The
Cingular rep said I should be able to do that so long as my GAIT
phone's serial is on my profile, and my network is set on the account
    at GAIT-GSM.

Yesterday, I visited Cingular and picked up an LG C1300 for myself and
a Nokia 3120 for my wife who's switching off of Verizon and signed
that lovely 2yr contract. Based on a lot of test calling today, I'm
sending the LG C1300 back--it's RF is horrible in comparison to either
the Nokia venerable 6340i or the new 3120. I had the occasion to
drive about 10mi on the highway behind my wife's car and we were both
talking to landline folks. It was interesting to find that I managed
to get dropped twice and get 10 or more "are you there's" from the
person I talked to who complained of me breaking up frequently. In
contrast, my wife with the Nokia 3120 had no drops, and no breakups of
any sort during her conversation over that same stretch of road.

At least I learned quickly that this LG needs to go back to the store.
But.. what to get? Do I have a bad unit?

I would like a flip phone if possible, but I'm not willing to
sacrifice very much performance. For me audio and RF are chief
    concerns.

Thanks in advance for any insight or advice!

    Best Regards,

I heard the motorola 550 is a good deal. I'd stay away from lg as my 1400
    keeps losing calls for me.

I hear good things about the Motorola Razr V3 in terms of RF/audio.

It's true, the Motorola Razr V3 is quite good in terms of audio clarity and
    RF.
The audio is clear and more like a 'real' phone.... but it's quite
expensive. I guess you pay for what you get.

Unfortunately I fogot to include that I'm also a max bang for buck
    sort of shopper. 8-)

Now, I was tempted by the Motorola V-series low end phones based on
some good comments here, but after pressing reps directly on what
phones they see come back the least often, they've conceded that
they're seeing more returns on the lower end Motorolas lately,
although they had very good luck with them for a while until just
    recently.

I've got the Nokia 3120 right now, and we'll see how it goes. Seems
like a great little phone with the sole annoying exception that I need
to get an adapter to use my std 2.5mm headsets with it. I wish Nokia
would get on board with a std headset jack. :-\

Depends on what you refer to as "low end". I've had a V180 for almost 6
months, now. The only two "glitches" I've experienced are things I've read
    about, before.

The ringer speaker seems to muffle very easily, with something over it.
Although I've noticed that this seems to be related to the hearing angle.
My phone is on a clip holster on my right hip. There are times, with a
jacket over it, that I don't immediately realize it's ringing. But a cab
driver or anyone sitting at an angle to me & the phone seem to pick it up
pretty easily, even over wind noise.

Likewise, if I set the phone on vibrate, I don't always feel it. But my
holster is on a clip that pretty much holds it away from my body. The
vibration doesn't seem to be strong enough to get the cip moving enough to
    be noticeable.

Other than those two quirks, the V180 works like a champ. Strong RF signal
& reception, even inside my home, which seems to be the only place I've
lived that is in a less than ideal reception area.

"Razer and the V551 are the same under the cover I think.
They both sound great and are not dropping like many other models of Moto's.

Actually the RAZR is lacking in a couple of features that are available in
    the 551.

As a followup to my own question, I have to say I haven't had a single
problem with the Nokia 3120 in the Chicagoland area. This phone just
    friggin rocks. Kudos Nokia.

LG C1300 buyers, beware. My unit, at least, was quite a piece of
dung, though the phone is awfully cute.
