I want to know how to go about getting a mpx220 phone from cingular. Can I
have it charged to my account like I could with verizon? Are there any
monthly pay services I can use (where they send me a bill every month for my
phone purchase)? My credit is bad and cingular wants $500 for me to open a
account in my name, is there a cingular reseller that can waive the fee?
Also how is the mpx 220 in rf wise, etc?
    any help is appreciated
    thanks

The $500 how much is deposit and how much is fees ?
If you pay your bill on time do you get the deposit back ?
Phone retails for $459 guess without a service contract you could find it
    for a little less.
I see it gets $300 to $360 on ebay.
You could buy the phone on ebay and use a prepaid sim.
Or pay the $500 and rebuild your credit.
If your credit is not too bad you could shop it around, but to get postpaid
service and a free/cheap phone they will check the credit.

In your present credit situation why would you need such an expensive phone?

because i want a phone I can keep for two years. That's why i want an
expensive phone. Now back to my question. Will cingular work with me on the
deposit or waive it and will they allow me to put the phone on my account
    and pay it back monthly?

    Re: how to buy phone?

IMO, DO NOT buy the mpx200/220 as these models have been discontinued for
now. If you do'nt believe me goto www.cingular.com and check out the
available phones. The screen is very bright but the volume sucks esp in a
noisy place. No 1-touch speakerphone button (you have click start key and
scroll down) even then you would have to be really close to hear the weak
output. Web access was pathetic, took awhile to get anywhere. Could not sync
it to my computer, I tried USB & infra-red ports. Maybe they have a better
software by now. Basically, a phone should be loud enough and have a
reasonably long battery life. Presently, I have the Motorola V3(RAZR) which
has a bigger screen and is lighter than the mpx220. Only gripe is that the
V3 does not record video but I was aware of it b4 I chose it. The v551 does
record video but I took the V3 for longer battery life. Foto quality ai'nt
that good but I was buying a phone with a camera and not the other way
around. The Sony-Ericsson s710a can take better pics, I believe.

    Re: how to buy phone?

Believe me, I am not anti-Mpx but I DID own that phone for a week and it
just does not live up to its promises. I have nothing to gain or lose from
this but it will save you from a lot of headache. If you still insist on
getting this phone, I am sure many retailers are willing to sell it to you.
    Good luck!

So many replies to this thread and you guys still haven't completley answered the OP's original question.

First of all you can't charge the phone to your account. The phone must be paid for up front. And no the deposit can't be waived. The deposit is required by Cingular directly, and no one can waive the fee. Of course if your credit improves, the deposit will go down, but you will be required to put down the deposit.
