The Cingular rep we're dealing with advises they don't insure data device (i.e.,
the Treo 650s we're considering getting). I'm a little surprised, as SprintPCS
has never quibbled about this (and we're buying all out new hardware form
    Cingular).

So, where does one go to get insurance on mobiles when the carrier won't cover
them? Lloyd's of London is probably a bit spendy....

Loss, destruction & breakage. Cingular sells the same coverage we've had for
three years from SprintPCS, using the same carrier, lock\line, but Cingular
won't allow coverage of data devices.

    Not applicable for government-agency-purchased devices.

Whoever insures your laptops will likely cover your PDAs.

well if its a govt purchased device...the agency should have a form of insurance they use for certain items they purchase, such as cell phones, computers, etc... does your agency insure its other tech belongings, like your computers?

I'm not sure about the Trio but in the past I was able to get insurance on
    my Pilots through Palm itself.

No, because they don't leave our offices.

Prior insurance coverage was through old cellular carrier on old PDAphones. New
    carrier does not cover those.

    Any ideas on a solution?

Yeah, Cingular gets what like $2-4 a month for insurance?
Times how many phones you have?
Start saving that money each month and put it aside.
Purchase another pda phone as a backup while one is out being fixed.

I know what the morons in an office can do to a pc and I can't imagine
dealing with PDA problems for them and taking away their phone at the same
    time.
Sounds like you have a fun job <chuckle>

Given the replacement cost (that is, when we're NOT adding a new account) of one
Treo 650 at $699.00 as per
    http://web.palmone.com/products/comm...equestid=66269
    and including the $50 deductible
setting aside the lock\line price of $4/mo would take 162.25 months (over 13
years) to set aside enough to buy a replacement.

Please, let's get back on track. No alternative solutions, no other ideas.

Where can cellphone insurance, insurance just on the Treo 650, be found in the
    US?

Yes, but only if you have one phone. If you have 100, it only takes 6
weeks, leaving you with enough in the bank to lose 8 phones a year.
Besides, you only have to worry while under contract. After that the
    phone is much less expensive.

If your a company of the government and need insurance, then call your
carrier and have a rider added to the contract (assuming you're not
    already covered).
