Which should I get Motorola V551 or RAZR?

Having been a Cingular customer here in New York for the last 3 years, I
have decided to finally upgrade my and my wife's phones.

After my research, I have narrowed it down to Motorola's V551 or the RAZR.

Can someone please tell me their expereicnes in using these phones,
especially if you are in New York Metro area?

Also, I have been told that Cingular no longer LOCKS their phones.
However, when I asked at the local store here in NY, I was told that they
are sold LOCKED. My brother bought his V400's in Seattle and they were
UNLOCKED. Any ideas?

Depends on when the phones were made. Cingular's multi-band world phones
were sold unlocked until earliy 2005. Since that time, many of them have
been locked to Cingular.

Razr & V551 are virtually the identical phones. Razr's screen is a little
bigger and the external display shows pictures. For most people it's the
form factor that decides it. If you think it's worth the extra money for
the Razr go for it, I did and have been very happy with it.

Actually, in my market, Cingular's Razr does not include video while the v551 does... if that even matters to you...

The V3 RAZR lacks EGPRS(EDGE high-speed data), unlike the V551.

Going to second Scorp's advice. I too have both and prefer the v3's great
reception over my v551's.

How is that touchpad on the Razr? I have always preferred the V551 style,
but may change.

It's kinda neat, that sucker lights up like a Christmas tree at night, still
have to be a little more careful which button you are pushing though.
