    Do you mean that in 2004 you could go to a cingular store and buy a
    tdma/amps phone and sign a tdma/amps contract? I did not think they
    were doing that then.
    I did not say the amps network was not maintained. I said amps service
    was not offered.

    It is a good idea to get service from the carrier that covers most if
    not all of the places where you will want to use the phone. Do not rely
    on roaming to meet your needs. Roaming is unreliable.

    I think you need to gain a better mastery of the English language.
    "Coexist" does not mean "continue to sell." AMPS-capable hardware
    continues to coexist on these networks too; that doesn't mean the
    carriers are still selling it.

    Those two statements were in reply to two statements by JN.
    Yes, wcdma is intended to replace gsm. I am under the impression that
    there is not enough band width to run both together. Maybe if cingular
    was to get both 800 and 1900 in all markets, they could keep gsm on 800
    and put wcdma on 1900.
    I do not think that cingular was still selling tdma last year.
