I have had my Motorola V220 for 2 months and love it. I got a perfect
signal ( 5 bars) for these 2 months. Last week, I went from a perfect
signal to zero signal. Called Cingular. They sent us new phones ( not simm
chips or battery ). Reception is no better. What can I do to get a better
signal ? Would unlocking the phone help ? Replacing the Chip help ?
    Thanks.

A better phone might help, but probably not, although it may be worth trying.

    No and no.

The likely problem is a problem with (or reconfiguration of) your local cell.
If so, only Cingular can fix that. Since you have no signal, insist that you
be given full credit for the period of outage and/or cancellation without
    penalty.

I claim zero technical knowledge, but I've been laying on the couch in our
living room and watched my v180 go from zero bars to two bars...to one bar...to
two bars...to zero bars... You get the idea: substantial changes in signal
    strength with the phone stationary.

Why? Maybe somebody who knows can elucidate...

In what area (city and state) are you? I know that Cingular is doing
some switch over in Utah and Idaho and are having major issues there
regarding the data networks, but I don't know about voice.

    Re: Reception Problem

We have a lot of problems with the v220 reception screen bleed microphone
failures. There was rumor ,somewhat substantiated, in the call center that
anyone with v220 issues should be either upgraded to the v551 or would be
allowed to trade for any other type of phone of comparable features,
primarily the z500a. I would say 6 out of 10 customers with v220's have has
some sort of major issue or failure with the handset. Gripe and complain
then gripe and complain some more to get somewhere with this issue and take
names and CUID's to go along with them.

Thanks for the info. I have 3 V220 phones, and 2 of them are junk.
I have had the service for 3 months, and am waiting on my 3rd
replacement for one phone, and have all ready replace one of the other
phones in my plan. The third phone seems to do quite well. Dont
