Question. I know there is a price change coming for Cingular 9/1/05. I
am a Alltel coustomer with my contract ending 9/5/05. I asked before a
related question one reply was to sign up before the price increase.
However, it was hinted by the CSR that Cingular would be matching
Verizon's price structure. So here is the question. What would happen
if I signed up and let then issue me new numbers (2 phones) I do want
to port them but what I wonder is say I sign up tomorrow under the
latest pricing. would it be possible to change the contract after
9/1/05 if it seems better and secondly.. could I after 9/5 get my
Alltel numbers prted to the Cingular service say a week after I have
been given the new phones.
Guess what I am wondering if I do this is there a way to play both
sides? and yet when the Alltel contract expires port my number before
i kill the Alltel account??
thanks

I was speaking to someone at Cingular a number of rungs up the food chain
from a CS rep and was told that while price changes are coming soon, they
will be in the direction of a better value (for most), but that some people
may not find them as attractive. One thing that was said, however, was that
the change would NOT simply be $10 added to all of the existing plans (as
was mentioned somewhere else in this NG).
And... if you want to gamble a little, there are always attractive
promotions right around Christmas time.

Re: ok one more question - contract question
They are are going to exactly what verizons are in minutes/cost. If
you want to pay 59.99 for 2 lines 500R minutes UMM, UNW then sign up
before the 1st. If you want to pay 69.99 for 700(?)R/UMM/UNW then sign
up after the 1st. Basically the lowest price point is being bumped up
to 69.99 to raise ARPU for Cingular. Hope this is the reply you were
looking for.
Also as far as porting goes, just go to a store before the 5th, tell
them you are gonna port in a week but you want a temp # now. They
shouldn't have a problem, they might try to hit you with a 36$ number
changing charge...but if you have your first CSR enter into your notes
that it is a temp # you can get that fee waived.
Good Luck.

Dan I am the one that posted that link and I did so for good reason. I urge
you if you are considering Cingular to get away while you still can. I have
been with them now for about 8 months and have had nothing but continous
nightmares. No Mobile to Mobile minutes as Nationally advertised, and
because of that it took all of my rollover minutes and caused me several
hundred dollars in overages. It has taken several months to get it fixed.
They owed me a $100.00 rebate of a phone I purchased from them they weren't
even going to give it until I called after 6 months and raised a mess with
them, then instead of giving the credit on my credit card like they were
supposed to they gave me a credit on my bill. That was ok but it came after
raising a stink and 6 months not 4 to 6 weeks like promised.
You can say it is BS and that not everyone likes the companies but I am
telling you I am speaking from personal firsthand knowledge. I am going to
break my contract with Cingular I am that sick and tired of their lies and
their own BS. That is where you will find the real BS. If you sign up with
them and once the problems start I hope you remember this post because they
will start that I can promise you.
But I wish you all the best if you do sign up with Cingular and I hope that
you get treated like gold. I know they have not treated me that way nor have
they treated many many others that way.

I signed up with Cingular, and I've been with them for almost three
years. I fled from Verizon Wireless's billing errors. I have never
looked back, and have been very happy and impressed with Cingular.

Been with Cingular for several years and have never had a single problem
with their billing, the phones or their coverage. Wish all things worked as
good as my Cingular service!

Ok here is how it worked out. I called the 800 cingular number they
said no problem BUT suggested I call the 800 cingular porting number.
I did that as well with everyone's blessing <g> I signed a contract
and was issued a set of numbers as a new customer. On the 5th early
morning I am to call the porting 800 number and they will assign me
yet another temp number and port the two Alltel numbers. weird but not
really a problem on either phone. then after the first if the new plan
seems better they will let me switch no charge to the new plane. As
one of the local sales guys said.. With the 30 days to cancel the
contract so I have a little more weight on my requests as they do not
want to lose the sale .. oh well guess i will report back on the 6th
IF it all works out as planned huh <g>

Hi Dan,
I'm a little late to chime in on this thread, but seeing as you're just
getting spammy "cingular sucks, view my crappy website" replies, I'll
repsond with actual information.

Yes, you can change price plans. At least that was what I was told when
I tried Cingular out. If the new price plans work out better for you,
then you can call them up and switch to the new plans. From what I
understand, the contract length isn't extended either.

Yes you can. I waited a few days when I ported from Cingular to
Verizon, and had no issues. Likewise, a friend of mine signed up on
Cingular and waited a week to port his Sprint number, also without any
issue. You MAY need to stop by a Cingular store and get a new SIM card
(the Sprint-Cingular port required this), but you shouldn't get any
grief over it.

Yes, it can be done.
One word of caution: were/are you happy with the audio quality on
Alltel? The reason I ask is that I've noticed people tend to be very
picky about how their phone calls sound, and those opinions are very
subjective. Most people who are "used" to CDMA calls such as on Alltel,
Verizon or Sprint and are happy with that type of audio often end up
cringing when they switch over to a GSM network such as Cingular or
T-Mobile. The reverse is also true: people who are used to and love GSM
audio get very annoyed with audio quality when they cross over to
CDMA. The different network types treat human speech very differently,
and although it's supposed to sound roughly the same, some people really
notice a different. You'll note the majority of people who complain
about "crappy audio" on Cingular were generally converts from Verizon or
Sprint, and vice-versa.
As for me, I ahve experience in audio compression, so neither is
particularly bad to me (though when you look at it technically, *ALL*
cellular audio is horrible, really because it compresses and hacks away
at so much).
