As I read it the V180 can be used in Europe. Is it possible to buy the V180
unlocked so I can buy a Sim card while in France which is appears to cost
less than using Cingular service.

Cingular stopped selling unlocked phones early this year. Also, the V180
was replaced by the V186/V188 some time back, and I'm not even sure
that Cingular still sells it. If you maintain a Cingular account in
good standing, you can call them and obtain the subsidy code. Alternately
you can buy an unlocked phone from a third party, such as a seller on eBay.

I just checked online today, and for zip code 32605, Cingular is still
offering the V180.

Re: buying unlocked phone from Cingular
I bought my V180 from Cingular less than 3 weeks ago. Or should I say I
got it for "free". I'm in Las Vegas.

Re: buying unlocked phone from Cingular
You can buy an unlocked, tri-band phone (900, 1800, 1900 MHz) from
cellhut.com for $120 that will work in Europe. It will also work in the
USA, but you may not get good reception because it doesn't have the 850 MHz
band. That's a lesson I paid $120 to learn.
