Which MediaNet advice have you already seen?

Motorola V551 Bluetooth Mobile Phone tools
    http://makeashorterlink.com/?W39E65F8B
is my story with a DLink-DBT-120.

Recently, John Navas suggested a Zonet USB dongle for $20.

I'd asked about Media Net account usaged. Is there a
link describing how to configure a V551 with a Zonenet
    dongle?

A Cingular-branded V551 on an account with MEdia Net will be automatically
configured for MEdia Net. Then all that's needed is to pair the handset with
the Bluetooth-equipped computer, and then to configure Windows Dial-Up
Networking to use the Bluetooth Modem as described in my web page
    <http://navasgrp.home.att.net/tech/cingular/media.htm>.

My son has a V551 and wants to be able to transfer pictures to his Windoew
XP laptop. Will the Zonenet dongle enable him to do that? Does he need any
other software? He can transfer pictures now by emailing them, but would
rather just use the dongle if that's possible.

My DLink DBT-120 USB Bluetooth dongle can use WindowsXP "OBEX", which I
think all Bluetooth dongles have, to transfer pictures and video to and
from my V551. I can also transfer contacts, one at a time. No additional
    software required.

A program like Mobile Phone Tools can do the same, as well as synchronize
the contact list between the phone and Outlook, or some other PC database.

    Re: Configuring the V551

    Hey John Navas,

Could you post your Zonenet and V551 connection
    settings? How about security configurations?

I added the native WIDCOMM drivers and the laptop
sees the phone. I configured a shared key and
the laptop / V551 talk to each other as they should.
However when I connect to the V551 as a gateway
I get nowhere fast. I go to

    My Bluetooth Places >
    Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood >
    MyPhone

Do I use the *99# number for the V551? That code is
not listed in your gsm reference page. Also the
PDF from Cingular is not available in the link
    on your media net page.

I've tried many permutations of installation. When
    I connect I get

    Opening Port
    Dialing *99#
    Verifying user name and password
Registering your computer on the network

    then

Disconnected Error 31. A device attached to the
    system is not function.

When the V551 is connected will I see the
EDGE icon on the phone console?

I believe WAP is enabled correctly because the
phone browser allows me to connect to Cingular
and see the Media Net pages.

    Thanks again for your help!

I use the Windows XP SP2 Bluetooth stack. There are no connection settings.
As I wrote, just pair the phone with the computer, and make sure that Dial-Up
    Networking is checked (enabled).

    Actually it is:

That's for Data Connect, not MEdia Net.

    You'll see "GPRS Active".

Then something else must be screwed up. Go back over my web page more
    carefully.

    Done.

I know it's on that page but not in the GSM reference link
    http://www.mobileshop.org/usertech/gsmcodes.htm

With the native SP2 driver I see a small E with a green and
red slash underneath. When I attempt to connect the Bluetooth
symbol appears. And then the error

    Disconnected.

Error 31. A device attached to the system is not function.

John I suspect I've flipped the wrong switch under Dial Up
networking. Would you kindly tell me the settings you have
under Security or Options? It appears to connect and then it
drops off like authentication is failing.

    TIA.

As a follow up..it sound like the Cingular Communication manager
software helps with data ready phones. Any one else play with
    this?

Default values. Nothing that would explain your problem.

Suggesting that your account isn't provisioned properly.

How would it "help?" Windows Dial-Up Networking works fine.
