I understand Cingular's policy against tethering with MediaNet.
I have a couple of questions:

    1. How many Megs are you using per month average?

    2. What is the highest number of megs used in a month?

    3. How many months have you successfully tethered with the MediaNet
    unlimited plan?

    4. Has anyone ever heard of anyone getting busted on tethering and getting
charged? (please cite url, if possible)

    Thanks
    ja

    No.

Caveat: My plan is the original "MEdia Works" unlimited, not MEdia Net,

Please make an attempt to read the post and respond with useful information
for the OP, who clearly stated that he was looking for info on MediaNet.

Nobody cares about your use of MEdia Works. In fact, it seems that nobody
cares about much of what you post. Imaginr that.

I sure do appreciate you looking out for me, Scott. However, the point that
I intended to learn is whether or not Cingular is monitoring excessive data
from users tethering with with a plan other than laptop connect. I
understand I did not state that, as I specifically said MediaNet, and even
though John's answer doesn't answer directly and exactly the question I was
asking, I still welcome his info.

I am beginning to think that this hostility towards John is caused from
something that may have happened in some other thread at some other time. I
really would like to keep just info in this thread rather than net
bickering. People's personalities clash when they communicate on a medium
that does not allow the expression of emotions, but it shouldn't spill over
into multiple threads. Having pent up feelings, aggression, or a desire to
be vengeful will not ever correct whatever it is you dislike about John, and
probably will not change anything about the way he posts.

    John,

I see that the current MediaWorks packages have "MediaNet" bundled with it.
Was this the case when you signed up for MediaWorks Unlimited way back when?

I'm in a similar situation as John Navas with an older unlimited MEdia Works
plan which, AFAIK, is still operational since that's the way I'm billed. I
use the plan only sporadically -- when at home, not at all except to test
it, but when traveling, I may make intensive use of it, i.e., 10 to 20 megs
at a session for several times a month.

My billing for data is weird. It indicates various limits at different
months and shows usage amounts above those at times, but since my bill
hasn't reflected anything but the $19.99 charge, I've ignored the usage
    numbers/limits.

I've considered dropping the Works package during the periods that I don't
use it but hate to be unable to return to it although the MediaNet (if
tethered) would be ok for me.

So, what you are saying is that whatever amount you use, it shows it as a
credit of a number just a little higher than what you actually used on the
    bill?

What does it say if you log into your account online and check your current
data usage? Mine is showing me a credit of 1 meg, when I have unlimited
plan, and then it shows a negative 300 megs or whatever left until the end
of the billing period. Does yours do anything like that?

I'm really not sure what they are reporting. It appears for the billing
that I'm showing a limit on the amount of data, sometimes showing use above
that limit but I get no charge for an overage. I decided, as a working
hypothesis, this was just an artifact of their billing programming to handle
my situation. As long as I was charged correctly it was of no great moment.

They have always had the same policy about tethering, nothing has changed. They have always said you can't with any media net plan, but I have yet to see anyone ever charged for usage. I used around 20 meg or so last month. Search on howardforums, there are tons of threads and tons of people that use 5 times more than me. If you have an old unlimited media plan, unlimited means unlimted. As long as you are using WAP and not IP then the only difference with tethering is the size of the screen you're looking at.

I can go to web pages when tethered, I can't go to on the phone.

The original "MEdia Works" package I have specified unlimited "Wireless
Internet Express" (which is what Cingular called full GPRS access to the
    Internet), not "MEdia Net".
