With an active SIM, it should work on GSM without anything from Cingular.

It can in fact be disassembled and cleaned.

Sure, but not necessarily a person, as there may well be "old" new stock in
the channel.

Re: 6340i Gate Phone
I have a 6340i that I bought on ebay, but Cingular in the Bay Area will not
activate it. They won't even talk to me about replacing my old ATT Sony
Erikson GAIT phone with it. My SIM from my GSM Cingular Motorola won't work
in it either.
I am willing to sell it fairly cheaply. It has hardly been used, and the
battery holds a charge. I have chargers, etc for it.

"It can in fact be disassembled and cleaned"
I would have thought the actual contact area would be sealed to prevent
contamination like most keypads. Have you tried to clean one, or is this
something only an experienced repair person would do? Charles Ranheim

Re: 6340i Gate Phone
I have personally taken a number of cell phones apart, but not the 6340i.
Regardless, I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you are comfortable with
electronic assembly.
