Can I renew my old plan to get a subsidized phone without moving to a
current plan?
I have the 1000 anytime minutes for 39.99 and unlimited data (MEdia works)
for 19.99 and do not want to lose the plan I have. Will I be forced to pick
from
current plans to get a new phone? Or can I renew for two years at my
current rates?
My old V400 is starting to show it's age, I have had to clean the contacts
for the speaker
twice to get full volume, and it does not get the same signal strength that
the girlfriend's
V3 seems to get.

Pointless reply, as usual, thanks Phillipe.
I can get a subsidised phone for less than half price (V3 $99.)
since I have no plans to change service, why pay retail?
Do you not seek out the lowest price, or do you just
buy the most expensive version of what you want?
FYI I did buy the V400 off e-bay, which is why
I have to crack the case and fix the damn thing
when it acts up, instead of using the warranty like
someone who did not use e-bay.

Just don't want to sit on hold to speak to a rep, of course, you
are doing your best to make this route unpalatable as well.
What is your point? that you are a difficult person?
why did you reply, if you had nothing to say?

Yes -- if you are eligible for an upgrade, your current contract is simply
extended.

Re: Can I re-subscribe to old plans?
I'm betting you a former ATTWS customer on Cingular Blue. Your phone
selection is indeed limited. I buy my own. Nokia 6230's are still a bit
high (I like mine), but Nokia 3120's are plentiful and cheap. Motorola
v600's are getting cheap and even v551's are just a bit more. I have one
VErizon account and still use a Motorola 270c with bluetooth. They're a bit
big, great speakerphone, state of the art BT in 1999 when released and they
analog. Way out west, digital just dont go everywhere.
Buying like I do is a pain to start, but just how long would you like to
keep your present plan?

Re: Can I re-subscribe to old plans?
With MEdia Works Unlimited data at $19.99, and the 1000 anytime minutes
promotional plan at $39.99, that's definitely a Cingular ("orange") customer,
not a "blue" customer, for whom the phone selection is as good as any other
GSM customer. (I have the same package.)

No, I am a cingular customer by choice, not by merger.
I am trying to avoid buying another phone on Ebay, due
to problems with the last one, that I was on my own to solve.
I like to V3 that my girlfriend has, and would like to
get the best buy price of 99 bucks, rather than the
e-bay price of 200. plus taking the chance that
nothing goes wrong with it in three months.

Bernard,
You absolutely may upgrade your phone and keep your current rateplan.
The only rateplans that you can not keep with an upgrade is the older
TDMA rate plans. You said you have a v400 so you must have a GSM rate
plan. So don't worry you can keep it. Now Cingular reps, like myself,
work on commission so they may try and convince you to bump up your
plan to make a few extra bucks. If they tell you that you have to
change it I would not believe them. If they tell you that then just
tell them you will do it somewhere else. They'll probably work with
you then. Also, someone suggested going to Wal-Mart to get the
RAZR for $40. That usually only works with new activations and not
upgrades. Upgrades are usually more expensive at Wal-Mart and Best
Buy. I hope this helps. E-mail me if you have further questions since
I don't frequent these groups very much.
