    Thank you. I've seen that style, but the extension is pretty short, so I'm
    thinking of giving this one (which is quite a bit longer) a try:

    That seems like a good deal. I paid $1.50, and bought some other stuff so
    I wound up with free shipping, but the longer 2-3/4" antenna would
    presumably be better.

    I did another simple survey with my 1-3/8" extended verses the original
    antenna. I left a voicemail message on my office number while walking and
    stopping at six different points in my house. Then I listened to the
    voicemail from a corded phone. The extendo was perfectly clear, except for
    my breathing and miscellaneous noises while walking. The original antenna
    had some dropouts and sounded like ... a cell phone. There was some
    squishiness in the audio, and miscellaneous background noises that I could
    hear on the cellphone when it should have been silent.
