Which one is better in terms of EDGE capability? I have the V551 and I'm
wondering if an upgrade is worth it.

The V557 has the same EDGE capability as the V551 the only difference
is the MEdia Ticker on the V557.

So its basically the same phone. Was disapponted at reading the user
comments on CNET for the V551.

Media ticker is like a RSS news feed or stock ticker that goes along
the bottom of your screen with info that you set up. Weather, sports,
    movies, entertainment, etc..

Go somewhere worthwhile for your reviews. At least with computer stuff,
I've yet to see much of anything that matches real world experience. If
phone reviews are anything like the computing reviews, I'd expect negative
reviews to point to something I'd want to take a second look at.
Especially since my own experience owning a V551 doesn't match the reviews
    you describe.

The new V360 (not available through Cingular) has faster EDGE.
Or wait for the new RAZR.

"Someone" said that the 557 has a better RF front end, i.e. sensitivity for example.

    True? Not true?

I haven't done any testing, but I would seriously doubt that -- the V557 is a
very minor update to the V551. (I'm personally disappointed that Cingular let
T-Mobile get the new V360, which is a bigger step forward.)

    For what its worth:
I was told by a Cingular rep that they had fixed some bugs
in the firmware. -- he didn't say what they were
    Dont know if its true.
be nice if you got better battery life

any one know if the menu features are any different ?

sounds like a marketing ploy on Cingular's part to sell more
    extra services

The Motorola V557 is EDGE Class 6 - 2U/3D/ GPRS Class 10, so a little
faster upload potential than the V551, EDGE class 4.
