My daughter's LG 1300C GSM phone is on it's last legs so we're looking
for a replacement. She'd like a flip phone with speakerphone. Doesn't
care about a camera. I'm looking for a decent quality and minimal price.
I'm stuck with almost another year on our family plan and don't want to
extend the contract. Any suggestions on good phones and/or where to get
them, besides eBay?

Contact Cingular about a replacement. After you have been on your contract
for a year, you are usually eligible for a replacement phone for free or a
small amount. I found this out when one of our phones when through the
wash. At that time the available free phones included the Motorola V180.

Except the OP said he didn't want to sign a contract, and free phones are
always based on a new contract. And BTW, the V180 is no longer in the
Cingular line, at least in Illinois/Wisconsin.

Re: looking for replacement phone
If she was satisfied with the 1300 the natural suggestion with be the
replacement model (1500). It's very similar but has a speakerphone added
and it's the least expensive phone in Cingular's lineup. Samsung x497 is
very similar.

I'd personally go for Samsung over LG any day of the week.

Re: looking for replacement phone
Actually she was never particularly happy with the 1300. And from what
I've heard LG phones generally aren't all that great anyway.
I stopped at the Cingular store to see what they had available. He
pointed out that since I'm on a business plan, it's only for one year
and that I'm no longer under contract. So that opens a whole new range
of possibiilties. I'll have to call the business office on Monday and
see what the story is.

Re: looking for replacement phone
Thanks but Cingular finally agreed that 1 only had a 1 year contract
(now-expired) and not 2. This frees us to go to another carrier since I
have no usable Cingular service at my new job.
