Hey I live in downtown Atlanta but travel in rural areas of georgia
quite a bit,,mainly just driving up to north georgia, but I generally
stay very close to the interstates.

I am verizon customer but they have pissed me off so bad with the
motorola 710 fiasco. So I am considering cingular as I have some
friends on their plan, but I worry about the GSM coverage. Verizon
seems to have coverage everywhere--so I am told. How is Cingulars GSM
    coverage these days?

It should be very strong in the areas that you are looking to use it.
After all Cingular's HQ is in Atlanta. I cannot speak of personal
experience in GA but in Cental PA it is rock solid inside and outside
coverage. It's been a very long time since I've had a dropped call.

It sucks. I hate my cingular and wish I could go back to Sprint. If you
live in Ga. their service is terrible.

    Re: Service in Georgia

I have had extraordinarily great service with Cingular in North GA. I
travel to the following cities while never losing Signal:

Chattanooga, Dalton, Ringgold, Adairsville, and Canton on the North west
    side

Alpharetta, Cumming, Dahlonega, Cleveland straight up north

Gainesville, Jefferson, Commerce, Greenville on the North east side.

It will only breakup sometimes on Hwy 115 in between Dahlonega and
    Cleveland.

    Poor Cingular coverage in Dunwoody.
