In my area (West TN) if you called someone on a land line with caller id it
would show your cell number and for the name would show the City and State
for the exchange. Like my number is 731-549-XXXX and it would show Scotts
Hill, TN or 731-733-XXXX - Parsons, TN and so on. Well now it shows
unavailable for the name. Is this because in the near future it will
actually show the subscribers name with their cell number in the caller id,
some other reason, or something done by my local phone company? Also
would/could this mean names along with numbers in the called id on your cell
even if the person isn't in your address book?

Re: Cellphone on Land Line Caller ID

That isn't the case for Central Calif. Cingular has 2 ways to show your ID.
It will always show the phone number from your cell, but it can either show
the name on the cell account or it can just say "Wireless Caller". In my
case, I have a family plan with 3 phones. I have Cingular set it up to show
"Wireless Caller" as the name, since I don't want my name showing when my
wife or daughter are calling others on their individual phones. Cingular
has no option to show the sub user names, only the master name on the
account. When I receive wrong numbers on my cell from other users, it does
not post a name (says "name unknown"), only the incoming phone number, so I
have no clue if it is somebody I might know calling from a different phone
number. If it is a number on my list, then the name does show. I hope this
    helps.

Re: Cellphone on Land Line Caller ID

My brother's cell phone now shows his name with his cell number on land line
caller id units. He lives in Middle TN, not sure which wireless carrier he
    has though.
