    Hi,

I just got a used UNLOCKED Motorola A1000 today. Previous owner said it
worked on Verizon and Tmobile, however when I put my cingular sim into
it, the phone cannot register with the network. It "sees" the cingular
network and actually lists that it is available, however, it does not
register the phone. It says, I can only make emergency calls.

I tried different Cingular sims and same problem.

    - When I boot up the phone, it recognizes my number, then it starts
    searching for the network,

    - In the phone settings:
    - I have it locked to 1900 MHz
    - In the "Avail" tab it sees the "Cingular 310-260" as the only
    available network
    - "Register" is the only selectiion I have
    - I select "Register" then it tries registering with the network, then
    it fails.

    Handset Information:
    Ram: 32MB
    Version: REL_51.95.00
    Baseband: A1000_U_34.15.OBP
    Flex: USA 1000H3GAR341003
    AP Config: A1000_generic_APCONFIG_014

I emailed the seller and he did say it was unlocked. He used Verizon
and TMobile in Hawaii so it does work.

Any suggestions? I'm live in Baton Rouge (zip 70809) and I do pick up
    1900 MHz.

    Tam

Obvious rubbish, since that's a GSM/WCDMA phone, which won't work on Verizon.

Is the SIM activated? Is the phone really unlocked?

Return the phone to the seller.

Re: Cingular Sim Card Registration Problem with an UNLOCKED Motorola A1000

310-260 is Tmobile owned. So while your phone shows Cingular, that's
because the Cingular SIM has programming that overrides the actual network
name. At one time it would have showed Cingular Extend but now they even
hide the Extend with the latest registration downloads.

While Cingular does having roaming agreements in places with Tmobile, if
there's an 850 network that is AT&T or Cingular, they don't grant priviliges
on the 1900 Tmobile band. By law they have to let you dial 911 (I.e.
Emergency Only) but not make a call. Or authenticate registration. Many
V60G owners have learned this the hard way. That phone never had 850 and
while it roamed on 1900 for a while, it stopped working in many parts of the
country where 850 is present. (Happened to one I owned, I can no longer use
    it as a backup phone).

To really use Cingular you need a 850 capable phone. The A1000 does not
support 850. Good phone for Tmobile since they use only 1900 in the USA.

    Good luck

    Steve,

you've given me the most amount of insight into this sh*tty Cingular
problem. Thanks for the response. Is there anything I can do besides
before I send the phone back? Besides using it as an expensive MP3
    player?

    Thanks again,

    Tam

If you can, get a refund. If not, go to various phone groups (howardforums
etc.) or ebay it. To get top dollar you will need to ship outside of USA.
But be sure to get full payment and have receiving party agree to pay all
duties. Lack of 850 is only a problem in North America.

I recommend a V551 or V557 or V635. Plenty available on ebay. Be sure to
    get "unlocked".

Verizon doesn't use GSM family of technologies, so that is not possible

Has the phone been reported as "Lost" or "Stolen"?
