urgent - need info - "Anywhere" wireless internet access (EDGE/ GPRS
    coverage)
via a wireless aircard attached to the laptop

I am travelling from Northern CA to Southern CA for a few days.
It would be great to have wireless internet access anywhere any time
from the car, beach etc ...be able to check and return emails.
( I will be using it mostly to check emails and return emails)

Is there any company / service that offers a temporary service for the
above...or has a pay as you go service ....

This would be great ...as i need it only for 3 days.

It seems that most companies like Cingular have one year + contracts.

is the speed very slow ?

Do anyone have any info that could help me.

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Kim

True, but you can add a data package to an existing rate plan with no term
obligation; i.e., you could add MEdia Net Unlimited, and then cancel it at the
end of the month, giving you unlimited data for one billing cycle. (You're
not supposed to use that with a laptop, but it does work.) Use your SIM in a
"tethered" phone or wireless card with support for GPRS/EGPRS(EDGE).

I don't know of any company selling short-term data rentals at affordable
prices. Probably not enough money to make it an attractive market.

Another option is to use WiFi wireless hotspots, some of which are free.

Depends on the service, equipment, and specific location. EGRPS(EDGE) is
capable of speeds well above ISDN.
