For folks who don't get a text message package with cingulars service,
check your bills. They charge 10 cents an inbound or outbound message.
Cingular sent both of my phones each an advertisment message this past
bill and charged each phone 10 cents. Think about how much money this
equates to for cingular ripping you off.

If you get text messages from Cingluar, you shouldn't be getting charged.

Cingular's *system* text messages are free. Those messages must have been
another type and/or originated somewhere else.

Re: Text Message Charge...>Check you bill
I recieved a txt msg to my phone and then one to my wifes within min of
each other on the same date. The date that is on my bill. I still have
the msg and will be calling Cingular tomorrow to have the charges
....total 20 cents...removed. I think Cingular has definitly made a
billing error here. Also, I never use txt msg anyway.

You mean that if some total stranger (or kid with emotional problems that I've
never seen in my life....) decides to program their PC to send 1,000 text
messages to my phone some day that I'd see $100 added to my bill?

Unless you have a text messaging plan or text messages disabled yes.
IOW, "Yes", if you receive text messages on a PPU basis.

I too have a Cingular family plan with two phones and there was 1
incoming text message charged to each phone on the latest bill.
Neither my wife nor I received any text messages except those from
Cingular. I called customer service and they credited my account 20
cents. Not a big deal and I was more curious than anything about
where the text message originated, but customer service said they
could not determine where it came from only that it was incoming.

Re: Text Message Charge...>Check you bill
Not sure what your message was but I double checked mine. Apparently
there is some sort of partnership between Cingular and American Idol to
make calling in your vote a bit easier. Well to get to the bottom....a
20 cent credit is on the way.

Why would anyone do that to you? Seriously.

In that case, they would almost certainly give you a credit if you explained
the circumstance.

Re: Text Message Charge...>Check you bill
Hmmmm, we did receive American Idol text messages. I remember just
deleting them without a second thought since they came from Cingular.
American Idol seems to be a holdover from ATTWS and we used to get
text messages from ATTWS about American Idol, but since incoming
messages were free on ATTWS I never worried about them. I also never
signed up for any American Idol messages.

You probably did without realizing it.
